Another Bell Crank Thread Real Time Help Needed...

I need to get my parking brake working asap, Do I have to take the rear wheels off, and pull apart the drums to fix the bell cranks. Or can I just remove them from underneath?
 
To answer my own question yes you need to take the wheel and all of the brake componets off to get to the two 12mm bolts that hold the bell crank on.
 
Ah, is that what those parking brake lever things on the backside of the wheels are called? Bell Cranks? Nice to know. If I would have saw this post earlier I could of told you "yes".
 
A few things I learned while doing my bell crank job...

1. Not as hard as I thought. I am not sure how the:banana: thing works but I would say :banana: and about 2 hours with a lot of breaks..I mean alot
2. You only have to remove the rear shoe to gain access to the 12mm bolts
3. A vise and sledge hammer will be needed if bell cranks are frozen
4. you can break a bell crank in half while trying to remove the pin that holds it all together.
5. Breaking it in half is not the end of the world. It will work with 2 e clips and some bailing wire until you can source a new one.

LOL. Sounds like my problem. I agree with you, not hard at all, pretty easy actually (well, once you've done it). I have the luxury of being friends with the original "cruiser parts" shop in Southwestern Oregon so I didn't have to go through beating the hell out of a frozen bell crank, I just traded it out for an un-frozen one. I feel for you on that one. But all in all, not a very hard process. I found that you can get by with un-hooking only the bottom spring on the shoes and the 12mm bolts are right there. Fun stuff though. :D
 
I try just the one spring, I will back in there soon so next time...
