I convinced a good friend of mine to sell his diesel Excursion and get an 80. He found a nice one in Las Vegas. Dark Green & lockers, he is loving it. His only complaint: "man, where are the cup holders!!!???":crybaby:

many thanks to Beowulf for helping me out with the inspection...

That's quite the change - guessing that he didn't need that much interior room or massive amounts of power anymore ?

On the way back from Vegas we got 20 mpg out of one tank.

The deisel was getting barely 13 mpg, so he improved a little.

The size was reduced but so was the debt. 50k worth of Excursion vs 10.5k for the LC.

Wow, 13 mpg is pretty crappy for a diesel. My dad's Dodge gets better mileage than that pulling a loaded trailer.

I never got 20 mpg in my 80 either but it did have 33s on it and a lot depends on how you drive it.

Maybe downhill, with a tailwind, and running tiny tires. Normal will be 12-13 city, and 16 hwy (before he starts adding toys)

I averaged 14 mpg in mine in mixed driving. That was with 33s and stock gearing and not much additional weight. I get about 4 mpg with my 4Runner but I'll admit that it is not as nice as the 80.

I was able to squeeze out 15.0 at 75 mph on our 80, two ways on a 80 mile long highway. Using one of these:

you can tell that the best mpg is when the torque converter is locked up in high gear. That means faster downhill and slower uphill... I think the worst that was possible with the torque converter locked up was 14.2.

Sorry Greg?

Obviously the "80s suck" thing was just to get a response to that other thread. But I don't know why anyone thinks I care what they drive. In reciprocation, I don't think anyone should care what I drive.

That's obvious.

;-)

Don't worry about it Rory - Boring is as boring does... :-)

[deep breath] Ahhhh, Ummmmm. I just love the smell of napalm in the morning. It smells like Vik-tree.

And good morning to you too, Greg!

I am too young to have seen Apacalypse Now when it came out but I recently rented it. That was one, um, interesting movie. Danise thought it was too weird to watch most of it. I was mesmerized. I will admit, it was pretty freaky though. The image of Martin Sheen stalking his prey, coming up out of the water still sticks in my head. Now I've superimposed Greg's face onto that scene and it's even more disturbing.

That image is worthless without pics. PHOTOCHOP!

The one with the knife in his mouth? Yep, exhilarating. That was one great movie. It was toned down too, for production to the American public. Having known a few gunboat Vietnam Vets when I was in the Navy, the big point to me was that the movie portrayed how they described it.

In other words, the vast majority of us American wussies (except the ones, now, in Iraq) have no clue about the barbarism of war (aka reality).

That's why it's so ludicrous to fight a war the way we are doing it in Iraq. We are never going to get the public on our side as long as the other side butchers the ones who *are* on our side, and they live in fear.

To think they will all suddenly overcome their fear and revolt against the ones with the weapons means they need their own weapons. Oh, yeah, that's right, we took them all away. How naive can our leadership be - oh yeah, that's why they're called Chickenhawks (and Neocons).

(A perfect illustration of what happens when only outlaws have guns too)

Hey Steve,
I was going to see if you still had that switch. If so today is a good install day, I could meet you up in the remote Rio Rancho area...

I already gave it to Jon Stewart for you.
