That's the nice thing about the floors. They are easy to clean. It's now spotless.

I painted the rotors. When I took the rotors off my tacoma they had big chunks of rust. I'm hoping painting them will prevent that.

I ruined a tie rod while doing the axle so I just replaced all the tre's. Changed my oil, new antifreeze, and cleaned all the sand and rocks out of the frame. Is there a good way to get the sand and rocks out of the boxed frame? Also I noticed that my alternator wasn't charging very well. I put a meter on it and it read 11.8 volts. I'm pretty sure it's supposed to be putting out more. I'm wondering if I can just rebuild the alternator or if it's the regulator and to purchase a regulator is more than to just buy a remanufactured alternator.

You should be seeing just north of 14v

Really? I've never had a vehicle read over 12. Most read right below the 12 V line.
Motor house even drops to 10 when I turn anything on the dash on. What am I doing wrong? with all my rigs?

edit: I reread the question, he ain't talking the gauge... he tried metering in... nevermind. I've never tried that.

I've had a few rebuilt over the years and it's almost always the brushes. Find an old alternator/starter shop with some crusty old dude that's been around since the invention of electricity and have it rebuilt. Should be cheaper and better quality than getting a remanned unit from one of the chain stores.

There's a good shop in Auburn but it'd be a bit of drive for you.

Truth spoke here!
Edd is the best.

Scan Guage voltage monitoring

Reading at cold idle. The only way to read a alternator is to put the meter in series with the battery.

across the terminals you should see close to 14 with it running, a little under 12 not.

Just to clarify

across the terminals you should see close to 14 with it running, a little under 12 not.

If the truck isn't running you are reading the battery voltage because the alt. is not active.
To the original point, if his battery is only reading 11.8 when the truck is running, the first place I would look would be the alternator. 11.8 with the truck turned off is not a bad reading. Not great, but not bad.

I had it tested and it failed. Bought the bearings and the brushes for $16.

So, I broke the alternator. Really broke. So I ordered a re manned one online for $85 with shipping. I'm still a little confused about how it all comes apart.

Land Cruisers can be and are deep money pits. Thanks for setting me straight Blackdog.

Can't talk to now, I'm busy digging....

I've owned this thing for 6 or 7 years and it's been running for less than a year of that. I'm hoping my luck changes soon. It's got rebuilt engine, transmission , transfer case, new radiator, new distributor. In the last year new starter, battery, alternator, carb is coming, rebuilt power steering, new fuel pump, coil, rebuilt front axle, leather seats. There isn't much mechanically that's not new on this thing. It's been a money pit for me.
