I keep telling my wife it's a great investment. She's going to hurt me one day. It will be worth all the pain and suffering and what good time we will have had.

If it's reliable after this it will be worth the investment. I keep thinking about a Toyota diesel but at that point maybe I should just save up for a 70 troopie.

I was asking about the chunking coming from the front end in another thread. I figured it out. My, not sure what you call them, turn stop bolt on the knuckle wasn't adjusted properly and the lugs on the tires were dragging on the leaf springs. It still has a little pop sometimes in the front end though.

On to the next project. My heat doesn't work. I read about using muriatic acid to clean the heater core out. I was even told to use it by a radiator shop. I guess there must have been a hole in it that the crap was covering up because once I finished, it started dripping the acid and antifreeze in the cab of my cruiser. The acid eats carpet by the way. So, I tore into the heating system and ordered a new heater core. image-4094863485.webp It wasn't too hard tearing everything apart. I just hope it goes back together as smoothly. image-2650052977.webp This is thd burned carpet.

Did you neutralize it with baking soda? That stuff's nasty, and will keep on eating if it's not totally neutralized. It's not the strongest stuff, so it takes its time, but it will dissolve things no problem.

I cleaned gunnite pools with it one summer, and we kept a 100lb bag of sodium bicarb on the truck "just in case." Turns out that was a good thing, cleaning a drained pool, walking down to the deep end, my rubber boots slipped and I slid down into about 6" of standing muriatic acid. By the time I got back out of the pool, the other guy had the bicarb off the truck, and was throwing handfuls of it on me. That stuff sizzling with the acid on skin is a really odd sensation. Anyway, I was fine, but it dissolved the bathing suit type shorts I was wearing, leaving me in my boxers. We had another guy that was a r'tard, and didn't wear the rubber boots on a job several weeks before that. It ate his work boots and left bad burns on his feet. Heeeeeeeres your sign.

That's pretty intense. I poured water all over it flooding it and letting it drain out of one of the drain holes, but after reading your post I poured baking soda and water over the top of it. I got some of it on my hand and was surprised at how much it burned. I was using the 31% concentration.

I finally got my heat working and it works good. I still need to put the thermostat in but I'm waiting on Toyota for the gasket. I had two hoses switched, so it was working against itself and the heater core was the red headed stepchild in the middle. The whole rest of the system was too hot to touch and the heater remained cold.

On to the next.

I've been trying to diagnose a problem with the engine in my cruiser. I was told to find someone with a smoke machine to see any leaks in the engine. Have you guys heard of this and do you know a shop in Bham that would have one?

I'll ask FB...

"Hugs and kisses Dueces", I prefer Texican's suggestion on FB... about finding folks that toke and hav'em blow into the intake...

Call Service Dept and ask for Lee Wolfe. He a service writer there. I gets my earl changed in the Tundra there a lot.

I saw your post on Facebook. Thanks. I don't really have any contacts in Bham except you guys. I take it you mean the Hoover Toyota dealer.

Are we FB friends?

I'ma ZERO! got the shirt to prove it!

I changed the oil in my transmission and transfer case today. This is what the transmission drain plug looked like. Is this an excessive amount of break in material after 1000 miles or so?
