lookin nice man....

I'm having a helluva time fitting stuff around the tanks... I've got a 15"wx9"Lx12"h electric cooler, a 10lb co2 tank, and an unpurchased toolbox (to hold recovery gear, some fluids, v-belts, etc.)that needs to go in the back.

Thing is... the X brace behind the seats will hold removable panels to keep air/dirt/mud from blowing up onto us (real important for riding in cooler temps, and to keep the mud off)... so nothing can be mounted that breaks that "plane"

The 'pane tanks can't have anything directly over them, as the hold-down straps are hinged and swing up, and the tanks don't just slide straight out of the brackets, they come up and out..

I figured that the co2 can go in the left-front corner, 1/2 on the diamond plate, and 1/2 on the frame rail and be ok.

I'm hesitant to let anything extend outwards of the frame rails though, and eventually, there will be skins on the sides.

I need some ideas...

There is alot of un-usable space arountd those tanks......

What about a small 4" deep rack (think shrunk down confer rack) that attaches above the tanks with some type of quick release. You will only need to take it off when you fill your tanks.

Downside: any weight you put on the rack will be relatively high in terms of COG

Not alot of picture-worthy stuff from this weekend.. But I'm getting psyched, the checklist is getting shorter!

Pulled the bottom 3 leaves from the rear 7-leaf waggy pack, and the bottom most leaf from the front FJ-40 pack to get the height down. (Yes, that much weight is gone!!)

Made most of the propane hoses, and mounted the mixer & converter.

Did the tabs for the seat belts.. I swear the seats doubled in weight with the belts on them.. the Corbeau's are sooo light!

We decided to re-use the stock tranny tunnel and just patch the holes from the 3 old shifters.. the floor should be done next weekend.

Got the skidplate lined up, couldn't get the aluminum, so I'll be running 3/16" steel for a while. oh well.

We are going to make the tray over the 'pane tanks, and hinge it from the rear, as was suggested on the PBB, to hold the toolbox & cooler, and whatever else needs to be bungee'd down. I'm gonna add some hatchback struts to help lift it up, too.. :D

I think my spark plug wire problem is FINALLY solved. Got a pre-made set for a '85 1-ton big block, and some blingy seperaters. Had to make little brackets off the valve cover hold downs to position them up and out away from the manifolds. DIY wires would allow me to better utilize the seperaters, but these are lifetime warranty :)

Got the "carb" linkages hooked up and adjusted.. I have learned how incredibly important this is with a 700R4, so I spent a while on this. Damn universal bracket from Summit almost didn't work. The can with the yellow sticker is the oil pressure sender. Had to mount it up with a 1" riser, and a 90*

The engine area as it sits now... Very nearly complete! Just need a couple of bolts for the mixer, mount the tranny cooler, and all fluids.

'Pane tanks are plumbed 100%, you can baarely see the hinged shelf above them.. (The hinges I bought sucked ass, so it needs to be re-made)

The VERY well protected radiator.. :D

Moved the mount for the rear leaf spring up and slightly rear for lower ride height and more ground clearance. the hangar is flush with the bottom of the frame now.

That's all I got done today.. Saturday was a non-shop day.

Paint is done... FINALLY. That sucked ass... My garage has mist all over it, the floor is red & blue, and I spent waay too much time and money on this... Next time, it will all be vinyl, but Nicole wanted to help (She did the design and the masking, I just did the labor), and who am I to say no? :grinpimp:

I gotta give credit to Texican - ever since I saw a picture of his cruiser, I wanted something like it..

Sorry for the blur, it's kinda dark in the shop, and the flash washes out the colors.

(And yes, the paint is pure Rustoleum, for EZ touchup. the rattle cans match perfectly!!)

Never seen flames like that before but I like it. Right on!

Her idea was that the flames are the stripes on the flag, which is why they are straight at the leading edge of the hood... It's also why the stars are oddly shaped, 'sposed to be like embers from the flames..

Thanks :)

Eventually, it'll have skins of some sort, but with a private ride coming up, skins are last on the list..

The front of the cage will just be red, and will go to blue at the point where the rest of the paint does.. I'm trying to talk myself into doing the whole cage blue, and not just taking the easy way out and going black.

Getting there... Getting excited...

Got the ghetto-fab exhaust done.. I wanted the muffler out form under my seat, but really had a hard time buying anything that I'm just going to cut off next year.. so with some 2.5" scraps, and a Borla tailpipe section for a Mustang, came up with this... Also made a heatshield where the pipe runs under my seat..

Fun with gussets.. 18 or 20 in all. yaay.

Rob got started on the floor, with the tranny tunnel now in place.. you can't even tell there were 3 shifters cut through there before...

Did the windshield downtubes, had some interference issues with the windshield wiper cable, so I could not use bigger diameter tubing. You can kinda see the shelf in the background for the toolbox, cooler, and other little stuff.. it's on a gas strut.. :D

And finally, got the hoodpins installed.. Was nerve-racking to drill through the new paint!

Next week.. time to fire the engine!

Damn, we could take the back half of mine and the front of yours and have one truck red n white stripes and one blue with stars......

Thanks Nolen..

Butch - When nicole asked me what I had in mind for paint, I showed her your rig for inspiration... We just didn't have as much sheet metal to work with, :D Nor was I willing to have something I can't repair with a rattle can on my junk. Something like yours is what I'd LOVE to have, but then I'd become one of those guys who won't use the body to get around a rock...

She really liked the art on your Cruiser though..

You get over that after a year or so of babying it, mine is getting some rash now.....
Maybe we'll get 'em side by side some day.
