Am I Nuts for Considering a Cruiser Purchase in Today's Market?

Like I said. Emotional connection.

I’ve remarked that the only vehicle I’d replace my 13 with is a 16+, but in reality I’d even have trouble doing that.

Well if you're "stuck" with one for a minimum of 10 years you certainly picked a good one.

I’d check the install on that LRA. Multiple customers had issues with fuel smell etc coming from the secondary tank install.

Wow. That sounds rare. A 6-9 year old LC, with < 15K miles and in your location? A miracle you found one.

Indeed. And it had to be black over black. I could have gone with 2 owner if provided with all maintenance records, but happy I found a 1 owner example. It took a few years, but I did locate the one I wanted. YOLO.

Would you mind elaborating on this. What should I look for? I definitely don’t want gas smell in my garage, since I occasionally spend time in it. Ed Martin Toyota installed and used the upgraded plumbing and pump. I know they’ve done a few of them.

Search for gas smell LRA.

I know Eric at Ed Martin just recently put on upgraded lines and pump. Spoke with previous owner who’s my neighbor down the road and only noticed a faint smell a couple times while out west in the mountains. He sold it to Ed Martin, they upgraded all the necessary items. So hopefully it’s even better now. I’ll know soon enough.

The issue, at least as documented on this board in the past, was that Ed Martin didn’t do the work themselves. They farmed it out to a commercial side of 4-Wheel Parts, and in those cases the attention to detail seemed lacking. I specifically remember pictures of a LRA install where non-fuel-rated hose was used for the breathers, contributing to the fuel smell.

Now I do believe Eric and Ed Martin give that commercial operation enough business to lean on them and maybe up their game.. but sadly it being done “there” in the past has had some poor outcomes.

Just double check everything, or maybe inquire as to whether those issues have been addressed in subsequent work.

There are two black landcruisers for sale in des moines now. One is a heritage at the toyota dealership with 25k miles. They are asking 110k. Its a 2020.

The other is at the Willis Lexus dealership its not listed on their website but I saw it in their lot without plates. Its a 2016 or newer.

The one at the Toyota dealership looks pretty nice.

I guess it's still a relative bargain compared to what dealers are charging for the G-wagon nowadays 🤣

Eric told me the upgrade LRA parts kit includes Parker stainless fitting and clamps, fireproof hoses, upgraded fuel pump and a few other bits cost an additional $1,400.00. I'm sure Eric did his homework and something that might be considered if it eliminated the chance of gasoline fumes being emitted.

I confirmed with Eric and previous owner that 4WP did not touch my Land Cruiser.

Does that include install? I know I wouldn’t want to deal with installing it. Did you ask for a breakdown cost to compare with other shops? Curious to hear what the cost difference is. I am sure you can find a good shop in Phoenix area.

That's just the upgraded parts kit. Doesn't include LRA tank or installation.
I'm considering purchasing a 12.5 gallon LRA tank kit soon thru Cruiser Outfitters and have them install it when it is delivered in the spring.

I would ask them what they think of the cost and if they offer similar upgrade.

The upgraded pump that a lot of users change to is under $100, I can't fathom where another $1300 in hoses and fittings would come from on top of an already overpriced $2500 tank.

Good going @Angelo1 welcome back to the club!
If i ever get out of line looking at trading for anything else on the market ima dm you for a gut check.
Also what a wife, she deserves our collective respect. I get obsessed with decisions like that too so i know what you put her through going back and forth lol.

Put up some pics though the web ad is gone.
