I am replacing a Chevy V8 in a friend's 40 with a fuel injected 2F (from Tucker/Roma's build) and am going from a Chevy alternator to a Toyota alternator. The Chevy alternator had three wires going to it- one to the large post with a ring terminal and two others with female spade connecters. The Toyota distributor has four terminals- one large post for a ring termianl and three spde connections. Looking for someone to tell me what two spade terminals on the Toyota alternator to use to attach the existing two small wires in the truck's harness. Pictures of alternators posted below- one pic of the Chevy alternator two of the Toyota. Help! Thanks in advance. Gary S

Easiest way to figure it out is to find out what application the Toyota alternator fits - then search for the terminal diagram . There have been so many alternator swaps over the years it's not really that hard to locate the info and tie the alternator into the system properly to get the voltage sensing design to work correctly . I can help with generic alternator wiring into a single distribution point since I've done it on so many hot rods with various alternators , but not with such a specific install . Just need to know the terminal layout on the new alternator , load points in the existing system and how the voltage sensing load works in the vehicle . You're going from a Delco 10si to a newer version Toyota alternator , I'd suspect one of the Toyota's terminals won't be used as many had a monitoring terminal for the vehicle's ECM...
Just finished converting a '62 Chevy BelAir wagon to a 3-wire Delco 10si last week , no voltage drop the headlights or anything else when done correctly .

See if these photos from my '77 alternator helps:

Got that and thanks for the post! I found a 76 harness in my stash that had a good alternator wiring connection. It had the large ring terminal wire (that goes to the ammeter), a white with black stripe wire that goes to ground, and a white with green wire that goes to one of the terminals on the voltage regulator. This truck had a Chevy alternator with an internal regulator. It looks like I need to install an external voltage regulator. I have a few new regulators here with the proper wiring connector but the only wire I know that goes to it is this white with green stripe wire from the alternator. Any suggestions on what other wires (if any) I'd need to connect to the regulator?

The External voltage regulator was originally on the fire wall beneath the brake booster (engine side of fire wall). I'd start looking for the wiring there.

I wired one just like that into a 71 Triumph GT6 without too much headache... and that was transplanting it into a vehicle with Lucas electronics.
