Let me state that this is not a current problem, but it did pop up this week but somehow I got my 81 started after a new battery replacement. Couldn’t figure out why I had all power could just never get the starter to turnover when I fitted new battery. Was curious to know where would one start to look if this was the case.

I’ve already replaced this year with the new gear reduction starter, all new power/ground cables, and cleaned all ground contacts, new coil, etc. But again before I replaced a dead battery my Land Cruiser never had a starting issue. It starts now, but just curious to know where to start if this happens again.

Start by looking at the last thing you changed.
New battery?
How well seated were the terminal post connections?
A bit of corrosion there at the terminals will give you resistance. Not enough to stop 12V for your lights, but try pulling starter current through it and you'll get nothing but a hot battery post.

Thanks guys, will check the posts. It was a brand new batt and may be the culprit. So far, it’s been starting fine.
