Ended up removing the gearbox on my 75 (only to work on the t-case). That’s enjoying!
So much space on a 60 series…

Finally done. Looks like about 2400rpm at 65mph. Before I was sitting at about 2600rpm at 65mph. Should help with improving my mpg. Saturday plan on going on a road trip, will see what the mpg’s will do.

How hard was it to do that job?
Specific tools required other than pullers?

Hardest part was getting enough clearance. I think my exhaust was blocking the drive line from dropping down far enough. I was able to use a small/short puller for removing the 5th gear bearing and gear, and had just enough room to use a short 36mm socket with the torque wrench to snug up the bearing at the end of the 5th gear shaft when installing everything. You have to maneuver the back case cover to get it off the 5th gear shaft. Depending on what your doing if you are not planning on touching the 5th gear shaft you don't have to remove that cover over the bearing or remove the bearing. I did remove the fan just incase it would hit the radiator when the drive train was tilted, and the fan was hitting the top of the fan shroud. If I hadn't found the small puller I would have modified a bigger puller I had to cut down to size.

Wow, great job without removing the whole thing again! That sounds like it was a pain. I am sure the 20-20 hindsight kept bugging you with the "if I had only known this BEFORE I installed it the first time...."

Not that I have ever had that experience... 🙄 😜 Kudos on making it happen in situ! Hopefully that will help with the MPG... but even if it does not make a huge difference in fuel consumption, having 200 fewer revolutions per minute hour after hour should help the engine last longer.

Back from vacation. Left last Saturday and got back today, Friday. Traveled the most on day one and two. After that was more relaxing. Drove up to Deadhorse from Anchorage. Then on the way back stopped/overnighted in Fairbanks and hung out with friends we don’t get to see much. We used to live there for 7yrs. Then an easy drive to Delta down the Richardson Hwy to do a couple trails off of it, with another overnight at a lake campground, not one of the better ones we’ve been at. Then to Palmer meet up with friends at a camp ground. Then home today. About 1860mi total driven.
So, let’s start with leaving Fairbanks on the Elliott Hwy to the Dalton Hwy. Some road construction slow downs, some paved roads in good shape some with lots of pot holes, and the rest dirt roads mostly with pot holes and wash board. Timing really is everything when traveling on dirt roads in AK or even Canada.
North bound pics first.

Saw a black bear heading into the woods at a fast pace. One red fox. A few caribou just south of Deadhorse. Lots of ground squirrels. Different birds.
