I’ve been to AK twice. Each trip a month and 9000 miles. Both time driving. 1994 our 60 series with 4 kids. 9 year old boy, 2 girls 5 and 3 years old and 8 month old baby. All we had was an MSR stove.
Then in 2019 our 80 was fully finished...
Today we kinda brain storm about the real estate and what need to be done for the future fitting the Kalori fan has no real meat to bolt and I might need to find another fan and tube set up for upstairs in the roof when cold.
We found good...
Okay...electrical witchcraft of some sort. So a diode is like a check valve? Lets current flow in one direction only? Whatever it is, it's now in the scrap bin and my dome lights work as they should now. Can't believe I'm still finding...
You could try to weld on what’s remain from the broken bolt.
I use to drill broken bolt too before but not anymore, just when welding doesn’t work.
Sometimes I start by welding a washer on the bolt, then a nut
Most of the time I do a spot weld on...
Next order of business was my dome light not wanting to turn off. Started about December. I've just had the switch off as the light would flicker and not go out completely.
Dug into the driver's side first, think I found the problem.
Looks...
Adding boost increases compression temperatures and burn speed already, so advancing timing more is a very bad thing. Especially on engines that weren't intended to be turbocharged.
EGT is only an indication of cylinder temperature. Advancing...
advance timing increases crank pressure, not great for a idi diesel,
retarding it slightly puts it in a safer place.
any egt difference seen is only due to the timing of when the combustion event happens, its the same heat load tho.
retarding it...
Yours is a little older than what Duncanrm posted. His is aluminum with two reinforcements bracket on each side. This bell housing started around 1985 for the 3B.
Your bell housing is cast iron and no reinforcements needed.
I created the below image for the H41/H55F combo to the 2H/12HT engine.. the part number of the bolt gives the dimensions of the bolt away. I've collected a few images of how to decode the part number at this link -> Decoding Toyota Part Numbers...
Heritage parts program is a JDM-specific marketing program. It was never meant for non-JDM markets which is why you can’t get these parts in the US.
It is a marketing push to keep the LC in the eyes of buyers by showing Toyota’s dedication to...
On to the driver's side door. A bit more to be done on this side.
First, gut all the old seals/weatherstripping.
And in this case, remove the whole door after stripping it down. I have to admit I took the truck for a drive with no door before...
This time I put the transmission into first gear so I can wiggle the rear output to wiggle the input shaft to fit into the splines on the clutch and into the pilot bearing. Tomorrow should be done with putting everything back together and fill...
After fighting the transmission for two days I removed it this morning to find what I feared. I destroyed the clutch trying to get everything lined up and slipped in😡
I've seen replies that say you can dig into the top with a soldering iron enough to get enough wire to solder the wires together again. Then fill with silicone or something stronger to stabilize that area.
Seals were starting to fail. 1st and reverse kept getting harder to shift into. They have over 400,000km on them if original and they are one of the last parts to be replaced or rebuilt. Injection pump I think is the last piece that hasn’t been...
to support the engine, and free up the jack... my garage hack is to put a wratchet strap around the frame on both sides and sling under the engine to support or even raise it... much better than a board, and if you raise or lower the car, it...
Hose dimensions (BJ73 1985)
- Filler main hose:
You need the original part, as it's angled in 3 dimensions.
- Small hose at the bottom of check valve:
1/4" with a 90° elbow. A straight piece will not work here !
All other hoses are straight.
-...
Here are some more pics that might help someone.
Fuel gauge sender
Old suction pipes with strainer (outer ends chopped off). I used a flashlight aimed through the sender's mounting hole in the tank to see the baffles and to guide the strainer...
Well, after two years of sitting outside I brought my truck into the shop and my plan is to start ramping up on finishing my engine swap.
My goal is to drive it out to Rubithon this year…. Crossing fingers…
PTO shift lever 1
The shfit lever mechanism consists of a lever with a plastic knob (annoyingly missing the OFF/ON graphic), a bracket for the transmission and a linkage to the lever on the PTO box.
The PTO lever link with joint. The rubber...
PTO box disassembly 4
With the retainer off, the output shaft assembly can be moved out of the case enough to get the puller on the front bearing. The shaft only comes out from the back of the gear, so taking the rear bearing off at this stage...
PTO box disassembly 3
Now it's time for some fun with my favourite tool! With the washer, castellated nut and cotter pin removed, I pulled the flange off the shaft. It's a long interference-fit section on the shaft, so needs a good long puller...
