At least that's what i call them. The two metal tubes that should come out of the air pump aren't there.

I took my 60 in for an emmissions inspection last week and it passed all but the under hood visual inspection. The guy tells me I need to have the hoses from the air intake connected.

I knew for a long time they weren't there, but I was hoping it wouldn't matter to Denver Emissions.

So I want to put new hoses back on and take it back in.

I need three hoses (all part of the Air injection system)-

- the one from the air cleaner to the air pump
- the one from the ACV to the air cleaner
- and the short one from the Air pump to the ACV

But my problem is that I have no way of connecting the hoses to the back of the air pump, because the hose fittings are gone!

do i need to order new parts or can do you think i can get something to work from NAPA?

Also, since it's an 83, i can get collector plates for it, and i only have to pass Emissions one time. Then i can pull all of it off anyway, so i don't care how it passes as long as it does.

Smog Pump

The best you can do for an aftermarket pump is about $89, but then you need the hoses. In light of what you say and your ultimate intent, see if you can borrow a set up from someone, then return the parts after your truck passes emissions. I guess you have to figure what your time is worth. About 2 hours out and in from the loaner and your own and then again out and in. or replace the pump second time around with an idler pulley or a second alternator.

Howdy! Take a close look to see if the hose fittings are just cut off, or if they have been removed. If there are still threads in the pump body, just replace them, and buy/borrow the hoses, as available. I don't know about Colorado, but here in Az we can get collector plates, but then we don't get to drive but minimum miles per year which makes them about worthless if you need to drive back and forth to the trailheads like me. Those hoses are hard to find used. I had all the hoses except the one from the ABV to the air rail check valve, and had to buy 3 used SMOG setups before I found a decent used hose.

I have one of the hoses, and a used SMOG pump. See my parts F/S add if you're interested:

I am interested, PM sent....Thanks!

So does anyone else think that it's wierd that my truck has been running for years with the smog pump basically dicconnected from the rest of the emissions system?

BTW - I know why it passed the actual emissions test, because i added a few gallons of e85 to the tank before i went to get the test.

Yeah, it's weird, but right up there with all the other weird stuff that PO's and mechanics do to their vehicles.

I would assume you'd pass with the SMOG pump connected properly, but you never know. Keep us posted on the results.

Howdy! Lots of backyard mechanics think it is the easiest way to gain power, performance, and MPG. Many rigs have been butchered for little to no gain. Most were done with no thought of resmogging later. Some have been done very nicely and reaped the benefits, but it does take some planning/work/money to do it right. I had to resmog mine, after the PO hacked it up. He didn't know the difference between vacuum advance and vacuum retard. RETARD!! I got mine to pass the tailpipe, but it still flunked the visual equipment check, and that was way be fore the Internet or E-85. What a pain.

Have you figured out if you can re-attach your hoses to the pump?? John

My smog pump's fittings were completely removed, the back of it is just two holes where they used to be. I thought about welding some metal tubes to it, and ring clamping some 7/8" heater hose to it and running the hoses where they need to go,(seeing as it just needs to pass one time), but couldn't find the right size heater hose, and would probably permanently destroy my smog pump by welding on it, so......

I am borrowing a complete smog pump and the hoses I need from another mudder.

I'm nervous that once its all hooked back up, it won't pass for some reason.

Howdy! Hope that works out for you OK. It should. I can't think of any reason it would raise any of the tailpipe readings. Good Luck. John

PASSED!

And Im so frickin glad. I go the lender pump from ginericLC (thanks Eric!), and the first thing I notices was that it didn't want to turn as well as mine did, so I took that back off of both pumps, and realized that mine had been Devaned. :hhmm: So I basically took the back of the borrowed one with the fittlings for the hoses, and stuck it on my devaned smog pump. I got it in and hooked all the hoses back up to it and went down to the testing facility. Like i said, it passed the mechanical inspection, and passed the emissions again. I took the certificate to the DMV and picked up Classic plates for it. :bounce::bounce2:

They were expensive, but that's because they don't expire for five years, and i don't ever have to have another emissions test as long as I own it.

Eric, when I send that pump back to you it will be exactly as i received it, along with the hoses and the check for the shipping.

THank you so Much, man, I could't have done it without your help! You may want to address the Pumps inards before you sell it off, it just feels really sticky and the vanes don't move in there very well.
