Air pressure when removing differential plugs in 1994 ?

In the process of changing the fluid in my diffs and when I removed the fill plug in the front end, I heard some air as if there was some air pressure in the diff. Does this mean my diff breathers are not working or clogged? I have not touched the back yet since I want to figure the front end out first. Any help would be greatley appreciated. Also don't really want to wait for some crush washers from Toyota so I went to NAPA and purchased some flat one from them, will these work?

Yes and yes.
Blow out the hose and nipple on the axel.
A seal washer is a seal washer, just get it tight enough and you'll be fine (not over tight, but tight enough.)

Should I remove the hose or do you think I can get to it in the stock location?

its easy to get to, its directly under the power steering pump, slipped over a nipple on the top side of the axel.
Its held on on with a finger squeezable constant tension clamp.

Make sure the check valves cycle, extend them into a high and dry location.

Extend the breather lines and remove the check valves.
