Air cleaner question

I have a K&N air filter on my 60 right now but am going to switch back to an original out of an 83'.

First question, will an 83' air cleaner assembly just drop on to my 85' engine?

Second question, There is an opening on the bottom of the air cleaner assembly (both the K&N and the OEM) near the intake hose. Is this opening supposed to just open into the engine compartment or is there supposed to be a hose conecting it to something? I included pictures of what I'm talking about.

Third question, it looks like all the hoses match up from the K&N to the OEM. Is that correct? Has anyone done this before?

Are you taking a Downey Air Filter Assy off or do you have the standard FJ60 / 2F air filter housing and you are just removing the K&N putting a stock filter in it?

The down pipe you speak of goes to a heat tube that come off the exhasut manifold. Most of the aluminum corrigated tubes are gone after 20 year as well as the fiber cover that it connects to on the exhasut manifold.

On my 83 there was a hose from the AIR pump that went to the air cleaner intake snout.

I think you're talking about the Hot Air Tube #31 below.

It's supposed to fit to the "L" that comes off the front manifold heat sheild #30 below

To answer D'Animals's question, (at least I'll try, I'm not sure what a Downey air filter assembly is) bare with me here. I believe the air fliter assembley that's on my 85' right now is not stock but a K&N after market assembly. Is K&N the same as Downey?

I'm not just replacing the filter in the K&N aftermarket assembly. I would like to put the Toyota OEM assembly from an 83' on my 85' with a brand spanking new Toyota OEM filter in it from CDan.

It sounds like this part doesn't exist anymore. True or False?

Would my cruiser run better if I find a way to connect the air cleaner port to the manifold heat sheild?

Which part are you talking about? filter element? air cleaner assembly? Hot air tube?

The air cleaner assembly is NOT available from Toyota any more. However, most of the parts identified with numbers are still available new from Toyota or from SOR. Go to the SOR website (Specter Off-Road, Inc.-Landcruiser Parts & Accessories) and poke around. If they offer a new part, chances are that Toyota still does too...

I just need the hot air tube.

Am I to understand that the 83' assembly I have will drop right on to my 85' 2F?

I just noticed the pictures I thought I attached to my original post aren't there. I guess I got some lurnin to do.

Hot air tube. Still available? Where do I order one?

You don't "Need" the hot air tube.


The 1983 should bolt right on.

If you want the tube you can get it from SOR for $37. I purchased generic stuff from a local autoparts store. it doesn't fit great, but it fits OK. But like D'Animal says, you don't need it.

In super cold conditions, that heat tube will decrease warm up time. But thats about the only good purpose it serves. IMO.
