So great news! The car will be picked up tomorrow from Des Moines (alas on open transport, I just couldn't, after near 3 weeks, find any available closed one). Should get to Tacoma by Monday and shipped up to Anchorage Wednesday or latest Friday depending on space as I don't want the car on deck but below. Four days later it will land in Anchorage and from there it will depend on temps. Car transporter's hydraulics don't like to work in our conditions so I assume as long as the low is not below -20F they should be able to truck it the last 360 miles - space available of course. So looks like last week of the month. Rims don't arrive until the 24th anyway and since I want to clone the TPMS' I would wait until everything arrived, order the Nokian, place exiting rims with winter tires and save the Heritage for summer and the AS that came with the car (I think they said they were Michelin).

And then the mods begin; first up rip out the third row, check rear light pod (if it's a straight line from front of car, I'll just splice and make my own 7 pin connector (since I don't know what type of connector is on the vehicle - it has a 7 and a four pin) ....

Finally got some pics from the dealer, so sans futther ado...

I will add just one last bit of trivia and the reason I asked for the last picture from the dealer.

Porsche (as well as other manufacturers) no longer include the AM radio band in their head unit labeling it as superfluous, vestiges of the past a postcard of American Graffiti and I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't actually boast of having saved 1/10th of a gram in weight.

Among the many (inane IMHO of course) decisions they took for the 992 (and Lord there is a list...) the elimination of the AM band is so hard to explain. In actual fact you can in MIB2 IIRC code the AM band back in, however the tuner is not there so other than esthetic harking to the old days you get nothing but static. So why is this crucial to me? Well all road conditions in the US are on AM resulting in when we took a long trip in the 992 we made sure we took a small portable AM/Weather radio with us; thus negating the weight loss. As to another idiotic claim I heard that it interferes with EVs...I have a skiing resort in South Florida with your name on it if you believe that. For those who say, well who cares, you have your phone, well as soon as you leave "major" cities in AK you lose cell service...

So that picture at least showed the 2021 (still) has an AM radio and I can now leave the portable at home.

An example shown below when we did a pilgrimage to pick up a friend's Class A in El Paso and drove it up. I Did you learn something? Cool!

Yay!

I was able to see on one of your earlier photos the tires on it are Michelin Latitude Tour HP. I think Michelin may be phasing those out; they are no longer available in LC size. They were not particularly well thought of except as a highway-only tire. Might not hold up very well to the rigors of AK roads.

What’s the 7 pin / 4 pin connector question?

Wasn't planning on keeping the Michelin and certainly not as winter tires. Will probably see what Toyo has to offer for summer, they worked real well on gravel roads on my Touareg.

The connector question dates back to someone (sorry can't remember who) was asking about a trailer connector he couldn't disconnect. I suggested a couple of models and how to, but it didn't seem he had that one. Do you happen to know what type of connector the 2021 LC200 has (mine has both the 7 and 4 pin)?

I ordered a rear light pod that connects to the 7 pin harness behind the bumper as shown in the picture below. In other words does it have the standard 7 pin connector that I could then patch their unit to?

Thank you for your help

Siberian congrats on the truck.
AM is all due to Tesla. They started and everyone followed.

For the eight time the truck does have a standard seven pin connector. However the back of the connector is sealed and not designed to be disconnected which means you’ll have to plug your DD harness into the front and not use their slick little “in-line” connector. You’ll understand this when you get it.

Thank you!

Thanks for correcting me, I hadn't heard back so I didn't know if you had found a solution. So ALL LC200 are outfitted the way you describe? Yes, you can as you mention connect it from the front, or simply cut the wires in the back and make you own connector no?

siberian

So ALL LC200 are outfitted the way you describe?

Yes. @dudemancool1904 has the generation like yours,

I have a 2010 peasant model and we compared our trailers plugs (we live close to east other) last week both my 2010 and his 202whatever had identical 7pins and they are both sealed in the back

It’s hard plastic in the back, so would be hard to cut and splice cleanly. Not impossible, but more effort than I’m willing to put In

Damn.... it looked like a real neat solution... oh well winter is long and idle minds and hands... I'll see if I can come up with something. Do you have a picture of the wiring?

siberian

Do you know perhaps how long it sat at the dealer's?

siberian

So for obvious reasons the current kit doesn't allow you to connect the unit to the front port since those connectors are different as shown below. They've forwarded an alternate wiring guide for those wishing to do that as follows:

Hey,

Typically the Outboard connection is a bit different from the one that we plug into, behind the bumper.

With that, our kit will unfortunately not plug into the outboard, so if you still want to make the kit work, I'll attach the custom-wiring guide below:

There should be two parts of wires going to the main 7-Pin portion of this harness, one group for the Running and Reverse lights, and another group coming from the SafetyStrobe Module for the Brake Function:

Group 1:
Red: Reverse
Blue: Running Light
Black: Ground

Group 2 (SafetyStrobe Module):
Black: Ground
Red: Brake

Yellow/White : Left and Right Signal/Brake

For most vehicles, you can cap the yellow and white wires off, and only connect the red and black from the SafetyStrobe Module. If the brake function doesn't work this way, you'll just need to tie the red, white, and yellow wires all together, and then connect to the brake signal.

Seems like a lot of work. I'll try and find stand alone light pods that I can just connect to the reverse circuit. Anyone have a wiring diagram that shows which connect to the reverse circuit at the fuse panel?

Thank you

Congrats! My LX arrived on New Years Eve. I can attest that the Michelin tires aren't great on icy roads or deep snow, but my Blizzax haven't arrived yet. Need to get some summer rims and tires, but that can wait a few months.

Congrats to you on YOUR new ride.

Blizzak's are a favorite here as well. Since I'm putting Nokian studded on, the Michelin I was just planning on using up in the summer given our gravel roads while I look around for some Toyos as they did real well on my Touareg

Let me know if you ever make it up here. We're at -43F FWIW

I love Fairbanks, maybe I'll make it up this summer  It was a balmy -11 this morning, cold enough that I broke out the big parka when walking the dog this morning. I must be getting soft, used to need at least -20 before I'd break it out.

BTW I used Montway, though they just contract everything out. I was open transport to the port in Washington, then closed on the boat. No problems with the open truck transport and I was happy to save the $1000. While I would have loved to make the drive, not on a/t tires and I am $ ahead when I figure lost wages, fuel, hotels etc.

I'm thinking of going 18's on the summer tires as I prefer a bit more sidewall. Maybe I'll luck into a set of Tundra takeoffs. I'm thinking about going 32's but haven't decided yet 🤔

-11F is balmy, we wouldn't bring any dogs in yet at those temps.

I used Rightway Auto Transport they did OK getting my 992 up from Anchorage the only time I used the useless dealership for a warranty issue resulting in them keeping the car for four months.

Don't know how much off road you plan on but I'm on 3 miles of gravel (my mailbox is 2+ miles from the house) so I'd like to keep the wheels inside the well. Alyeska btw is a dealer for Nokian FWIW.

BTW any Toyota/Lexus clubs in AK? I pinged one of them but seems pretty dead - had I think 25 members, no idea where but would assume Anchorage/Mat-Su.

Let's keep in touch!. Stay warm

Thank you. A quick question is there a central place or repository for Launch coding/mods? One of the first thing I want to mod is changing the "overtaking" indicator from 3 to 5, enabling front and rear DRLs... any pointer appreciated.

siberian

You can buy a cable on eBay and get a copy of techstream on an old windows laptop or buy one of these cheap android powered tablet scan tools on amazon.

I just got a Launch CReader specifically for Toyota. Thanks for the pointer!

Update!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Car delivered to Tacoma and will be transferred and sail on Wednesday with the ferry to Anchorage. Given MLK on Monday they probably won't get the vehicle until Tuesday and then wait for a spot on the transporter to get it up here. This could actually happen if I'm not careful!!!!! :slap:
