So it will be a month or so before I see the vehicle as it's going to be trucked in a closed container from Des Moines to Bellingham, from there on a barge to Anchorage and then up to Fairbanks. Normally I would if not do a road trip to Des Moines, at least fly down to Anchorage (~370 miles) and pick kit up. But since it has All Season tires and temps hit 40 below today I might as well wait and have it delivered. That will give me some time to buy some rims, make up a mods list and most importantly brush up on Toyota as I've never owned one.

Please bear with me as I come up to speed. Best from 65 North

Good choice. Other members from the real north country will undoubtably help with good info. Peruse the forum 200 series FAQs while you wait; especially go through the build posts. Lots of ways to spend your money in there. I like your signature line. Must be amazing dogs.

Thanks! They're the reason I get up in the morning. Here's our youngest Nala (known as The Munchkin) - very little she hasn't destroyed and is a permanent fixture on my kill list.... Kiska unfortunately developed immune mediate poli arthritis and since she can't stand for long she imitates a meerkat but still runs the pack with an iron paw. Kenai (left) and Kuma wondering when they're going to run. All are rescues from human idiocy...

Thank you! All but one were abandoned or severely mistreated (Kiska, Kuma and Kenai). While Kiska and Kenai have recovered we doubt Kuma will ever get over her trauma. She's made great progress but it's day at a time after 3 years with us. Very sad

FYI there is a block heater kit available for the 5.7L. It slides into a hole in the back of the block, on the driver's side of the engine. Not easy to install. The cord is challenging to run to avoid the exhaust, and it's too short to reach the front bumper. I rarely use mine, but it does seem to work.

Dude buy some tires and send it! Some dude a few years ago drove from Houston to dead horse in his new HE. Definitely a bucket list drive!

Temps are -41F today. 'Tis not the season to embark on such a journey unless I had my Siberians with me in case of emergencies... Summer would not be a problem. But on a car I don't know, not winterized,in the middle of winter heading up North...:bang:

Thanks for the pointer, just scanned through it; cool pics and added some comments. Just remember Alaska is over twice the size of Texas :cool:

I hear you. I'm finishing up paperwork on an LX 570 and am having it shipped up. As much as I'd love the drive, given the cost of gas and hotels and loosing a week or work, it's much cheaper to ship it.

Hmm wonder why. I mean for us here, Oregon or WA would be closer with non of them charging State tax if you're not registering the vehicle in that State. I shipping mine from Iowa because I was looking for a specific used vehicle.

Didn't want to bother with Kendall? :arghh::arghh:
Didn't want to bother with Kendall? :arghh::arghh:
I don't have an issue with Kendall perse, though I haven't dealt with them since I sold my 94 truck in '06. I looked nationwide for a low mile 570, and found a 2018 with 53k on the odo that happened to be in Houston. I plan to own it a long time so the low mileage was a major deciding point for me. Looks like I'll be doing the AHC fluid change in the near future, well as soon as I make room in the garage to fit it in there. Roof rack and hence headline drop will be a spring time activity. It'll be good to have another Toyota SUV. I had a Prado when I worked in the middle east. It was a solid rig, but the 4.0 V6 is enough for two people and camping gear but thats about it. Need something to pull my boat so 4runners were out of the running and the V6 turbo made a new Sequoia or LX a no go for me.

I thought things couldn't get worse when Kendall sold the VW/Audi/Porsche dealership in AK as they were the pits on my Macan and 992 under warranty and especially their "gold" tech. However imagine my surprise when Swickard took over not only that dealership but the MB and Chebby one in Palmer. It's gotten so bad folks take their Porsche to BMW in Anchorage. When looking to replace my Touareg my essential requirement was nothing to do with Swickard; took 4 months to get my 992 back despite telling them exactly what was wrong. I'll go one further nothign to do with ANY dealership in AK.

The day I can't do my own work anymore I'll call an Uber. Don't know anything about Toyota so I'm hoping to gleam what I need from this forum.

When we got our first Mercedes the Anchorage dealership was pretty good with sales and service, but they definitely went downhill in service when the dealership sold several years back. They have been improving but unfortunately its that Alaskan experience where with most things you are better off doing them yourself from home repairs to auto repairs and everything in between. I plan to do the service to the LX570 myself.

Swickard now owns the MB in Anchorage... :bang:
