My old thread. I am still paying attention as I'm using an old lead acid starting battery as my house battery for now. Runs the fridge through the night and into the morning if it is not too hot out. Still intending to replace the house battery with a LIPO4 of some sort. They look good. Drawbacks would be might stress the alternator as the LIPO4s have high draw, and winching is not advised, according to at least 2 battery manufacturers.

I am not sure the LiPo will stress the alternator. The battery will just take what is offered in volts. As I understand it, what stresses an alternator is large numbes of accessories that demand a bunch of amps you may not have. For that, you can do a Sequoia or other alternator swap. That swap will also increase your battery charging rate.
Maybe I am wrong. It happens regularly.

Also I was thinking staying with AGM was a better idea for me because mine are both under the hood. LI batteries need some warmth to take a charge but do not like excessive heat. That is why lots of folks mount them in the back cargo area. I think Anti-Gravity may have that figured out though since their batteries are starting batteries and as such would be expected to be mounted in the engine bay.

Either way, I need to make a decision because mine are toast.

My concern would be running my old 60 Amp alternator with a LIPO4, as the battery might draw the max output from the alt for a while and stress the alternator. Eventual plan would be to upgrade the aux alternator, but not in the budget right now. Looking at some sort of DC/DC charger to control the draw when the battery is charging.

Yeah. I need to do the big 3 (5) wire upgrade and am considering a Sequoia alternator myself. I am currently running a reman Vatozone. It is on number 3.
