Aftermarket Shocks- Which to get?

I think what John is saying is that you can lift it more with the mod since the CV angles are better. However the bracket has nothing to do with the A arm positions and up and down travel. With or without the bracket, if you set the ride height at 3" over stock, the suspension travel etc will be the same.

The brackets will reduce wear and vibrations of the CV joints.

I pasted this onto the new DIFF DROP thread:

Yes Christo, OVERALL travel is the same, though how much UP and how much DOWN travel you have is effected and that really can drastically change your entire ride. You didn't have to deal with this much on your LX because of those shocks. As you know though on a 100, if you go to 3-inches, even wth the diff mod, you have little down travel (droop) left.

This drop down bracket have been available for more than a few years. They cost about $500 which I and many other people think its too much.

I am with Christo. The bracket got nothing to do with the travel or lift. It just reduce the max angle of the CV.

I am not new at this IFS thing. The last 3 off road vehicle I have all have IFS with all the common drawback but usually much better handling on the road.

The front suspension extension travel are stricly limited by the shock. This is also the reason Early OME shock got blown a lot in Australia because they do not have rebound bump stop. Not sure with the latter OME shock.

In 1999 Stillen build a custom FJ55 on UZJ100 frame and they claim 30% more travel. The only thing different that I saw is long travel coil over shock. This might be the way I want to go if the money and time permits.

My next worries is the rack and pinnion. My experience with Tacoma show that they are the one usually that got damaged if the suspension over extended.

I'll be..........Christo and I agree and are on the same page :D

my biggest concern is in lifting my 100 is that it doesn't bugger something else up(like the CV's).......I am not working on this cruiser any more then I need to and after reading the FSMs......it seems like I won't be doing much work myself anyway!

If lifting it(with Slee's goodies) and droping the crossmember means it will effect nothing in a negitive way I am VERY tempted to go for it...........but again I need a "normal" cruiser ;)

I need/want shocks........and if they happen to come with new springs and torsion bars......then thats just fine :D

funny, just relaized I have one lifted 60/2 and one stocker. One lifted 40, one stocker. One lifted 45LV.......one stocker. the rest are all lifted or parts rigs or something ;)

How much did you pay for OME shocks from your buddies shop?

Landpimp: YES, YES please let us know how your front 133s feel. I have the 100s though I told Slee to send me the stiffer 133 ones since I'm changing to stiffer 80 springs in the rear when I put on his big bumper. Very curious about those 133's. J

won't say :D

I sure hope you don't do the suspension at this time, that way you can tell us the difference with just the shocks.
I'm in the same boat as you, my 100 is my daily driver and want to keep it stock height but improve the ride somewhat with the gas shocks.

I'm in the same boat. I was thinking about the slee pkg but no can do on the lift due to garage clearance issues. I'll have trd sways on soon but I know I'll still have a sloppy ride. Hopefully I can get away with just sways and shocks. We'll see...
