Hey gents, I have an FJ60 w/ the 2F, runs good, drives good, love it. I have been watching for a chance to get a diesel 60 and came upon an HJ. It has the auto tranny, but I would prefer the manual (of course). I don't even know for sure if I am going to pull the trigger (need to get more pics) and reading the forums am a little skeptical as to how underpowered they really are. Stoked to get a diesel, but dropping a turbo to get it where it needs to be may not be in the near future. Would most likely put an OME 2.5", new rims and 33"s and drive it until it blew up. Let me know what your thoughts are on these rigs please and thank you!

2H stock tired ( did not mention how many km / miles on it ) + auto tranny ( A440 ) = slooooooooow .. ! + 33" ( 3.73 R&P ) = sloooooooooooooooooooooooooooooow ....!

with no turbo plans in the near future or re gear .. I would not do it ..

If you have plans to turbo it and manual tranny ( H55F ) then we can talk ..

Thanks Tapage, with the number of o's on the slow in your post I think I will pass. I will keep looking for a better option for the diesel 60. Still am waiting on pics from the owner. Close to 300k from what the owner is telling me. I don't know about dropping the coin on the H55F AND a turbo making sense.

I don't know about the auto, but I have an HJ60/2H/H55F with 337,000 kms (209,000 miles) and it gets by. It's not fast (ok, it's slow), but not so much so that it's not drivable. I also have an FJ60 that is waiting to inherit the 2H, and the 2F is a bit quicker (but not by much). And it's desmogged, with headers, weber carb and who knows what else.
I'd say keep looking for a manual tranny HJ60, or a BJ60. There are a lot of other diesel options out there, but these two are obvious choices as they are OEM power plants. Either way, the 60 series was meant to have a diesel....

I have an Hj60 auto. Love it. It is meant to get you anywhere while you watch the scenes. I don't give a damn about what others speeds are. I am never in a hurry when roading. Torque on the low end is awesome. If you are in a hurry go for a LS swap.

Test drive it, In the Netherlands we don't have many v8 and horsepower (but green climate idiots giving billions of tax money to rich tesla owners, no sense making rich people richer :bang: governments should promote small electric cars for the mass)
So I am not used to v8 power and my hj manual 5 might be slow but I enjoy driving it, uphill with trailer is it slow, but most uphill is followed by downhill (surprise?)
My hj can go 135 km/h so not really bad but I like 90 (max. truck speed)
Now with many governments trying to force electric cars I would try to enjoy diesel while possible.

Don't get me wrong folks ..

I'm the proud owner of a very slow HJ60 running on 40" ok .. so I know slow .. she's been with me for 2 decades and I still have her and love her .. and I used to go out " off road " with plenty V8 diesel or gassers ...

But I also drive a HDJ80 .. if I'm dropping money on a diesel engine .. ain't gonna be a 2H .. less if it's auto that's for sure ..

Not an easy decision. Question, if the motor blows up at some point (2H) can you do a 12HT head on that motor to get better horsepower and rebuilt the engine to work with a turbo set up?

Honestly, we can speculate about doom all day long and not lift a finger. These are tough vehicles. Just get it baselined and drive the snot out of them. Deal with it when it does.

Thanks for the input fellas. Received detailed pics of the cruiser today. Frame is trashed:( I was ready to go get it too. Great info for the next diesel 60 that pops up.
