LOL....

When I was looking at machines to replace my old Brother machine, I looked at several Toyota commercial machines on ebay, but I wasn't comfortable trying to ship a 50-60 lb sewing machine across the country. They are cool machines!

Photo from an ATC supporter

This is a great photo! We love it when our supporters send us pictures of how they use their ATC gear. In this particular one the ShopRoll, along with two Tool Pouches, are configured to assist in the installation of an ARB CKMA12 air compressor in a Toyota Tacoma. Nice!

This made us smile....a young customer sent us a photograph of his ShopRoll just starting to get filled!

Gotta love it!

2 New Products Soon to Appear on the Website

Paul is at it again! Paul, CEO of ATC, is also our product designer. He formulates ideas for new products, and sketches them from mind to paper. But that is only the beginning. From there he creates patterns for each product, cuts the material per those pattern pieces, and sews the prototypes on his vintage Rex sewing machine. After the prototypes are completed, we submit them to rigorous tests in the field, stressing them in every way possible to ensure that they will withstand many decades (and longer) of use and abuse. Once he is sure that he has created the best products possible, we offer them to you, our most excellent supporters, on our website. At the moment we have completed the testing on 2 new products and are thrilled with the results. Look for both of those products to appear on our website in the coming week. Cheers! ALC

New Product: Tow Strap Throw-Bag

Once again, you’ve got to pull your buddy’s vehicle out of the snow, muck, or that ditch he slid into. The Tow Strap Throw-Bag streamlines the process. Rather than searching through your truck for tow strap, shackles, and gloves, this bag holds them all in one compact place. The tow strap itself is easily deployable. Without removing the strap from the Throw-Bag, hold one end of the strap and throw the bag to the other vehicle. The strap feeds out mid-air. The bottom of the Throw-Bag contains a reinforced aperture through which the other strap end extends. Shackle the two ends to the two vehicles’ tow points, and you’re ready to extract. (The bag remains in the middle, with the strap running through it.) Once the tow is finished, simply load the strap back into the bag foot by foot. If the strap is wet or mucky by this point, it won’t soil the interior of your rig.

This Throw-Bag isn’t simply a bag that contains some stuff. It is designed to hold you gear securely in place, so that the strap doesn’t tangle within the bag, and the shackles don’t rattle around. Near the top of the Throw-Bag’s interior, a buckled loop holds one strap end and both shackles in place. At the bottom, on the exterior, a second buckled loop secures the other end of the strap. The Throw-Bag contains other features as well. An interior handle near the top gives you a grip for one hand while you’re loading the strap back inside with the other. The top of the bag closes tightly with a drawstring and heavy-duty cord lock. And two exterior handles make the bag easy to lift, carry, and toss around.

Paul also designed the Throw-Bag with safety in mind. During an extraction, the tow points, shackles, or tow strap could possibly fail, turning the strap into a highly dangerous rubber band. The Throw-Bag counters this effect. Simply place a rock or spare shackle inside the Throw-Bag, where it sits on the ground between the vehicles. If a failure occurs, that dead weight will dampen the unleashed energy, thereby protecting people and vehicles.

This bag is meant to last despite use and abuse. Made in Colorado, U.S.A., of heavy waxed canvas, nylon Cordura, and MILSPEC components, sewn with high-tensile nylon thread and reinforced with binding tape, it’s as tough as nails. Every Tow Strap Throw-Bag comes with a lifetime warranty.

Paul,

What brand of tow strap is that? About ready to pull the trigger on a couple of your fine products and wanted to get more info on that strap. I have a 30' now but wouldn't mind a 60' with a throw bag.

Kilmarkid-

That's an ARB 60' winch extension/static strap. The Throw-Bag is large enough to hold a 60' strap and a 30' Recovery/dynamic strap at once!

Great question! Hope that helps. Please lmk if you have any other questions!

I have an arb winch recovery kit bag that holds my gloves, kinetic strap, chain, hooks, winch controller, etc. it has seen better days and is starting to rip. Do u have anything similar to replace it?

Guppie-

Sorry to hear about your ARB bag, but I bet it's lived a great life! I actually have several different waxed canvas gear bags in development, testing and patterning, but it'll be a little while before get them up on the site due to a massive order we've received. (hint: if your attending Overland Expo 2014 you'll see it!)

Thanks for your suggestion and when we get them out there I hope it meets the needs of the off-roading community and they live a great life like your ARB bag did!

Be safe.

So, I was using the old Working Pig (1970 FJ55 LandCruiser) to clear the snow from ATC HQ and got a little too much forward momentum (skinny pedal) and ended up high-centering the poor old cruiser in a snow mound. Well, out comes the Throw-Bag, tow straps, shackles, chains and the old pick-up truck. With some help from VP Amy and a few tugs the old cruiser came out and finished the drive!

Thought I'd share some shots of the recovery!

Be safe.

Overland Tech video: ARB air locker installation

We're back from Silver City, New Mexico, where Bill Lee of Bill's Toy Shop installed an ARB locking differential in the rear of the JATAC. We've created a 12-minute video detailing the installation and a bit of trail testing afterwards. Click the image to watch a master mechanic at work. Klim Latitude jacket & pants long-term test

Overland Expo's Logistics Manager Alison DeLapp spent six months recently riding from Los Angeles to Ushuaia on her KLR 650. Her riding suit of choice was the Klim Latitude jacket and pants. Now, after 15 months and 23,000 miles, she's turned in a full report on their function, durability, comfort, and overall performance.

Adventure Tool Company attendee bags

We're pleased to announce we've partnered with Adventure Tool Company of Colorado to make this year's attendee bag. This isn’t your average conference or expo bag. First, it's made by hand, right here in the U.S. from American-made components. Second, it is built to last—not some cheap made-in-Asia floppy thing that will tear with the first use. Constructed of heavy waxed canvas, rugged Cordura, and MILSPEC components, sewn with high-tensile nylon thread, and reinforced with binding tape, this bag is as tough as nails, perfectly suited to overlanding. And yes, we're reprising the 4" velcro loop strip so you can keep collecting your favorite patches given away at the show. Click here to see more and larger images.

Fun stuff:

Sochi or Bust: Have Niva, Need Hammer. A great account of an overland journey from Moscow to Sochi in a classic Soviet-era ride. Includes a Russian wedding complete with bride wielding pistol and rifle.

BMW GS Anti-Concours: We came across this Sterling Noren video from 2010's BMW Anti-Concours event, where a "Clean GS is a dirty shame." Maybe we need to reprise this at Overland Expo?

Last month I wrote about the demise of some of our most beloved classic brands such as Willis and Geiger and (the original) Abercrombie and Fitch, inspired by recent changes at Filson. Dozens of readers wrote in to share their concerns, and a few complaints about the "new" Filson. Much to our delight, Filson responded personally, in a surprising way. ATC Messenger Bags for Overland Expo

We are very pleased to announce that Overland Expo has hired Adventure Tool Company to provide the official 2014 Overland Expo attendee bags.

Not long ago, the great folks at Overland Expo asked us if we would be interesting in supplying nearly 1000 messenger bags, which will be given to all registered attendees at the Expo. We said yes, gladly. We’ve always loved the Expo. It is the best event of its kind in the world, in our humble opinion, so it’s good fun for us to be partnered with the Expo in this way.

We designed a messenger bag specifically for the Expo, and it isn’t your average conference bag. Not by a long shot. Made from our signature components, this bag is meant to last. Constructed in Colorado, U.S.A., of heavy waxed canvas, rugged Cordura, and MILSPEC components, sewn with high-tensile nylon thread and reinforced with binding tape, this bag is as tough as nails. Expo attendees will carry it at the event, then take it home and use it for many years to come.

We hope to see you all at the Expo in May. And we look forward to seeing our ATC messenger bags slung over your shoulders.[FONT=&quot]
