We're ramping up our production for the 2014 OE next month. Thought I'd share some more shoots of how we make our Tow Strap Throw Bag (TSTB).

The bottom of our TSTB has two pieces of 12oz waxed canvas, folded three times at the opening and then hand sewn with four bar tacks and two "X" boxes with MILSPEC nylon thread. A ton of work and detail just in the bottom of the bag so that it'll last you a lifetime!

We’re very pleased to announce that we’ve just added a new piece of gear to our website, the Atlas Map Case.

We designed the Atlas Map Case to hold and protect large atlas map books, such as those produced by DeLorme and Rand McNally. Considerably larger than the Expedition Map Case, the Atlas Map Case comfortably holds an open map book, so that you can see two facing pages at the same time. (Any map book or map sized 23 inches by 16 inches or smaller, when open, will fit comfortably inside.) And the large pocket is roomy enough that additional maps and map books can be stored behind the one on display. When the map isn’t needed, simply fold the map book closed and stow it wherever. (It fits nicely down between a seat and center console, for instance.)

Like all ATC gear, the Atlas Map Case is as tough as nails. Made in Colorado, U.S.A., of heavy waxed canvas and MILSPEC components, sewn with high-tensile nylon thread and reinforced with binding tape, it will accompany you on every adventure, getting better and more supple the more you use it. Unlike most map cases, this one features heavy-duty vinyl that is UV stabilized. This vinyl won’t crack or cloud with use. And it resists scratches better than any other similar material.

Paul and Amy

Just got back from our 1800 mile round trip to the 2014 Overland Expo in Flagstaff Az. We had a fantastic time meeting everyone and sold out of all our gear (including displays!) by the second day! If you had an opportunity to attend we hope you had a wonderful time!

Be safe.

Paul, our designer extraordinaire, works with each customer to create exactly what is desired, ensuring that each piece is both ruggedly functional and aesthetically pleasing. As with all ATC gear, custom orders are made with great care in Colorado, U.S.A., from the highest quality American-sourced materials. View attachment 907061 View attachment 907062 We had a fantastic time at the Colorado Concours car show, and accrued one fun story in the process (below). Saw hundreds upon hundreds of the most stunning vehicles. We weren’t sure how the exotic sports car crowd would react to our gear, but to our surprise they snapped up all of the ShopRolls we took. Thanks guys!

So, funny story. The McLaren racing team was in attendance. About an hour after we arrived, a very nice young man from the team approached our table and asked if he could borrow the hammer from our display ShopRoll. Turns out the McLaren team hadn’t brought a hammer. He returned it quickly, with thanks. A few hours later, he reappeared. He asked if we had a Phillips head screwdriver that he could borrow, saying that he had asked the other racing teams first, but none of them had one. So we lent him the screwdriver. Too funny. Not a single one of the racing teams had a Philips head screwdriver. We would guess that in the world, around the entire globe, there isn’t a single owner of a Land Cruiser, or Land Rover, or other great old 4WD, who doesn’t have a useful set of tools in his vehicle. Different mindset, we suppose. But it was good fun for little ol’ us to assist the great McLaren racing team, even in a small way. That doesn’t happen to us every day.

!! NEW PRODUCT- SPORT SHOPROLL !!

The Sport ShopRoll is incredibly versatile. Perfect for motorcycles, boats, sports cars, small planes, ATVs, bicycles, UTVs, or what have you, it holds all the tools you need in one compact, portable place. When closed, it fits easily in just about any small space. And, apart from specialized use, the Sport ShopRoll is a great mid-size tool roll for any general purpose. (You can even store a knife collection or cigars, as some ATC supporters do.)

To add to the versatility, the Sport ShopRoll comes in two versions, one with a zippered pouch and one without. The pouch is perfect for sockets, electronic equipment, gloves, rags, tape, etc. Both versions offer 14 pockets to hold tools, plus a large open pocket running behind the others. The Sport ShopRoll also provides a large workmat area, keeping removed vehicle parts and tools safe from the grit and dust of trails, forests, deserts, or asphalt during repairs.

New products: Canvas utility tarps

These tarps have a thousand and one uses. Made in Colorado, U.S.A. of heavy waxed canvas and MILSPEC components, sewn with high-tensile nylon thread, they’ll take a beating and keep on working. Heavy and durable, they will perform any task that a plastic tarp can, but won’t tear, crumple, or flap excessively in the wind. And canvas, unlike plastic, only becomes better and more supple with age. The webbed loops allow for endless configurations, whether you’re using rope, carbineers, or zip ties. And, what we think is good fun, each tarp is sewn to order by Paul himself (CEO of ATC) on his vintage Rex sewing machine.
A thousand and one uses, as mentioned. We can’t list them all, but will provide a few examples. For trailside repairs, the tarps protect a fender or bumper without scratching, or provide ground cover when you’re crawling beneath the engine. (The medium tarp, when folded into quarters, fits perfectly in the main pocket of the ShopRoll.) The tarps also make great ground covers in general, protecting against moisture and muck, laid beneath a tent, sleeping bag, picnic lunch, or what have you. And overhead, too, they have their uses, as sun shades, rain shields, or temporary tops for open-air rigs. They can be laid across seats or truck beds or trunks for protection, or over top of your gear to batten it all down. They can be used to haul firewood or large parts, or, arranged in a cocoon, as a camp bed for your dog. They can also be used…. well, you get the idea. The possibilities are endless. And with a lifetime warranty included, you can try them all.

Given the size of the large tarp (7'x4.8') I assume this can be used to cover a M416 trailer? Do you have any photos of one of the tarps being used on one? If so, you could sell quite a few of these if you market them as being for a M100/M416 trailer given what they are charging on Ebay for them.

Petersen’s 4Wheel & Off-Road magazine surprised us again! Unbeknownst to us, the editors decided to feature the ATC Tow Strap Throw-Bag in the New Products section of the September 2014 issue. So there Paul was, drinking coffee out on the deck one morning while perusing that issue, and found a photo of himself, throwing the bag in the Colorado mountains. Thanks to the editors for their kind and continuing support of our gear! (See the March 2014 issue for their excellent words about our ShopRoll, or our December 29, 2013 Facebook posting.)

Many thanks to Wheels Afield magazine and its editor-in-chief Mike Schoby for including Adventure Tool Company gear in its essential Travel Gear section!! Last fall, Mike ordered a wide array of ATC gear, which he took along on his 45-day solo hunting trip across western U.S.A. Some of that gear is depicted in the photo. As you can see, it was well used and well loved, and "IT WILL LAST VIRTUALLY FOREVER." Thanks for the excellent recommendation!
