Overland Tech video: ARB air locker installation
We're back from Silver City, New Mexico, where Bill Lee of Bill's Toy Shop installed an ARB locking differential in the rear of the JATAC. We've created a 12-minute video detailing the installation and a bit of trail testing afterwards. Click the image to watch a master mechanic at work. Or, click here to view full HD version on our Vimeo channel.
Klim Latitude jacket & pants long-term test
Overland Expo's Logistics Manager Alison DeLapp spent six months recently riding from Los Angeles to Ushuaia on her KLR 650. Her riding suit of choice was the Klim Latitude jacket and pants. Now, after 15 months and 23,000 miles, she's turned in a full report on their function, durability, comfort, and overall performance.
Adventure Tool Company attendee bags
We're pleased to announce we've partnered with Adventure Tool Company of Colorado to make this year's attendee bag. This isn’t your average conference or expo bag. First, it's made by hand, right here in the U.S. from American-made components. Second, it is built to last—not some cheap made-in-Asia floppy thing that will tear with the first use. Constructed of heavy waxed canvas, rugged Cordura, and MILSPEC components, sewn with high-tensile nylon thread, and reinforced with binding tape, this bag is as tough as nails, perfectly suited to overlanding. And yes, we're reprising the 4" velcro loop strip so you can keep collecting your favorite patches given away at the show. Click here to see more and larger images.
Fun stuff:
Sochi or Bust: Have Niva, Need Hammer. A great account of an overland journey from Moscow to Sochi in a classic Soviet-era ride. Includes a Russian wedding complete with bride wielding pistol and rifle.
BMW GS Anti-Concours: We came across this Sterling Noren video from 2010's BMW Anti-Concours event, where a "Clean GS is a dirty shame." Maybe we need to reprise this at Overland Expo?
Last month I wrote about the demise of some of our most beloved classic brands such as Willis and Geiger and (the original) Abercrombie and Fitch, inspired by recent changes at Filson. Dozens of readers wrote in to share their concerns, and a few complaints about the "new" Filson. Much to our delight, Filson responded personally, in a surprising way.
