Can anyone help with adjusting the injection pump on the 13-BT for fuel delivery?
Mine has a problem when starting (hot weather only here) in that it idles VERY low, like it's going to stall, until it has been driven a few kays. When I bought it the idle-up knob was out a turn to stop it from stalling which I found out afterwards. I had the idle turned up on the pump but it still has the low idle problem from initial startup. I am thinking it is over-fuelling at idle.
Thanks

in other words what year is the pump? In 86 they started using rotary pump

13B-t's all ran inline pumps. 3BII's had rotary as I understand.

timing adjustment (not your problem) is a bear as there is one bolt holding pump to case that is hard to access.

someone else should help on fuel setting....

non of the 13-bt's are 3B 2's?

Huh? No, none of he 13BTs are 3BIIs. They are all 13BTs and as far as I know they all have inline pumps. After 1988, like the 3Bs they stopped sleeving them and went to an eight bolt flywheel.

Rotary pumps came on 3Bs as early as 1982.

In canada the 3BII's didn't come until 1986

what is the difference between a 3B and a 13bT's other then a turbo?

compression, head design, piston design, direct injection...

3B II came out in 1989...you can tell by the funky "header" exhaust manifold...

yess ..

But my point asking about inline or rotary pump, are, sometimes we said 13B-T but really is a 3B with aftermaket turbo .. in this case is posible, with rotary pump.

Anycase I don't think is a good idea adjust the rotary pump by yourself, go onto a good Diesel Lab to do that ..

If is a inline pump is other story ..

Cool I didn't realize there was more to a 3BII then just a rotary pump, so my 1986 CDN spec is just a 3B with a rotary pump not a 3BII. Cool

So I take it a 13BT has less compression and a high flow head.

Cool, sometimes I can't believe the things you learn on this fourm!

cheers guys

take a pic of the exhaust manifold, someone might have swapped a 3B II into the truck before you got it. i have seen a couple BJ60s running around with swapped in 3B IIs...
cheers

Your cdn spec BJ70 came with an inline pump. If you have a rotary pump on there now somebody swaped it.

Just to spam a bit:

Does it start easily or does it require a lot of cranking?

Just about every 13BT I have ever seen, started, and played with has to have the throttle turned up a little when 1st started. After it has been driven for a short period, or simply run for a while the throttle has to be turned back down so the idle setting can have effect.

How would over fueling at startup cause a lower RPM? I believe it would cause higher RPM if anything.

What is your hot idle RPM? If at 650 it is set right. If it is lower you can adjust it from below, on the pump. A 3B/13BT manual will walk you through it.

Thanks for all the Q's and Answers. Yes it is a factory 13-BT with the inline pump for those that asked. My hot idle RPM is set at 650-700 but from first start and also if I switch the motor off for 10 minutes it will idle very rough and at 300 odd RPM until I get driving. Here the weather is always hot, the manifold heater never comes on (I have tested it and it does work though). It starts first kick of the starter every time. Keep coming with suggestions, but due to time differences I can only reply at this time. Thanks

it hasn't been swapped, cnd spec 3B's came with rotary pumps the last year 1986, I thought! I know there is a difference between mine and the 85's, a while back someone told me that was it.

Whats an easy way to tell?

are you sure you do not have a minor air leak into the system?

where are you lines coming out of the pump to the injectors?
