Adding HAC on a desmogged 2F

Damn dude that is nice!!!! Can't wait to get my JimC carb and see how BeBe changes. And you are lucky to get Premium at that price. s*** our cheapest stations for 87 is still $2.99, then jumps up to $3.16/9 for mid-grade. She has been running consistently at about 10mpg with a good mixture of highway and city (about 70miles a week of highway rest is mixture of mainly city below 50mph). Hoping to see her jump up to at least 12-14mpg avg. once the JimC carb is installed.

So after stressing about this, I never got the HAC on the truck.

I drove from sea level to 12,800 feet with my 305,000 desmogged 2F. 2,700 mile round trip.

We drove all the way to right before Raton NM before noticed the engine start to change in little subtle ways. First thing I noticed was that the idle dropped lower.

So we stopped and pulled the timing light out, bumped the timing up to just outside the timing window. I assume that’s about 14* initial. I reset the idle and left the fuel screw alone.

That was all I did for the remainder of my trip. It ran for 15 hours over two days without an issue up to aspen. To be safe I ran 93 the whole time and i never heard or felt detonation.

I then spend 5 days driving to and from trails with about 5-9 hours of 4Low climbing up and down mountains.

It never overheated, poured black smoke like i was told it would or even hesitated. I overfilled it about a quart on oil one morning so it smoked a little, but that was it.

It ran back to Texas doing 80mph without issue. When I got back to the altitude that the idle had dropped at, I reset the idle and let the timing alone. Kept running good fuel and now I’m at sea level back home and it’s still not detonating. I usually run 93 anyway because it’s cheap from Costco at 2.80/gal.

It got 15.5 mpg driving there and back on the less hilly parts and did great.

In the future when i get a jimc carb, I’ll add the HAC back. But for now this cityracer Fuji carb and a bunch of timing did everything I needed.
So many questions. I have a WEBER 32/36, and an MAF HEI dizzy. I’m no mechanic but when we drive her back from VA to CA she acquired a horrible knocking sound in Mississippi while traveling up highway hilly stretches when down shifting into 4th and 3rd. Had a Toyo Mech adjust the timing in Missi, but once we hit the 8 in Southern CA the knock had returned.
When my Mech tried to adjust my timing awhile back, he had a hell of a time seeing the window. He also noticed that the bracket holding the dizzy I place was it doing its job. Not sure what the fix was for that but my timing is where it’s supposed to be.

Just returned from Mammoth Lake and once we hit 5000-6000’ I could really feel the different. My 60 was a pig. She was really laboring. I need to learn how to adjust my timing ( need a light for sure) and my Weber properly for the next time we hit elevation. Especially until I revert back to OME carb and dizzy. Rehearing from 4.11 (PO) to 4.56 will help as well.

That sounds very odd.

I was waiting for audible knock on mine, and it never came. I don't know if I was right on the threshold of the octane limits but even with all that timing and the measly 7.5:1 CR, it still did fine. It didn't blow up, and that makes me happy. This 2F has impressed me by taking the truck everywhere I needed to go, except for where a locker was a must.

The added timing really made a difference. I've also had my distributor Recurved by JimC, so that has to help.

The recurve and OME Carb are next.
