I just had the head gasket done on my truck and now it is idling high. Yeah there are lots of threads on this and yes I did a search. Unfortunately none I could find could really clear up a confusing point. I have a 97 lx450. The throttle body has THREE cables coming out of it. One to the cruise control. One to the gas pedal (this is the throttle cable). And one that goes I know not where...the fsm calls this the "acclerator cable". The accelerator cable is what is causing my high idle. If I manually help it relax a bit the idle drops back to normal. I cannot just adjust it for a more loose fit..its all the way as it is. Anyone know what the accelerator cable is for and where it goes? I cant find it in the fsm and the threads here confuse throttle and accelerator when talking about these cables. I see two possibilites. One: the accelerator cable is just too tight for some reason. Two: there is a loose vacuum hose or something and the ecu is causing the accelerator cable to set too tight. Since I dont know what the accelerator cable is for or where it goes I cant make a judgement. I cannot find a loose vacuum hose either.

Ideas?

The "accelerator" cable you speak of is the kickdown cable that runs to the transmission and controls the hydraulic pressure. If it is pulling the throttle plate open then it's not hooked up properly.

Here is the page concerning all the cables in the FAQ

Thank you Eicca. In my original post I have accelerator and throttle switched. Its the throttle cable that is giving me grief. The lousy diagrams in the fsm seemed to have them switched but upon random searching through the fsm I found that the throttle cable goes to the transmission as you say. Thanks for the link.

If you have an FSM look at area SFI System - Page SF-42

follow steps:

1:Inspect Throttle Body

3:Inspect Adjust DashPot

4:Check throttle Opener
