In the constant quest for data, I realize that there is not a catch all thread for 100's with A750F's as there is for 100"s with the A343F (A343F Trans & ScanGauge II what are your temp readings?). Thanks for getting the ball rolling with the A343F @flintknapper!

I installed a ScanGauge II on our 06' LX470 last summer and programed the Xcode for it to read transmission temperatures.

It is mostly used for city and highway driving. In summer driving, our typical trans temps range from ~130-170* and coolant temps range from 188-193*.


Questions:

If you have a ScanGauge II and the 5 speed transmission (A750F) what kind of temps are you seeing?

I live in a place where ambient temperatures regularly reach 100-107F° (and + depending on asphalt radiation). My trans can range from 130°F (level driving) to 190°F (hill/mountain steep incline).

Motor water temp ranges from 188°F to 206°F during that same range. If I hit 206°F, I usually make sure to turn overdrive off and keep the RPM high to blow the fan harder. It gets the job done and lowers the temps, or at least stabilizes them at ~200°F+.
 
2006 LX (measured with torque app)
Constant ~75MPH on highway
Air temp ~95*
Coolant temp ~190*
ATF temp on level ground 150-155*
Climbing hills the temperature peaks ~180*, but quickly drops back down to ~155* after the incline.

^^^^^ is this with a '750' transmission? Your signature line suggests you have a '99 LC which would have a 343 trans?

I have an '06 Land Cruiser and need to get trans temperature working on my ScanGauge. Could you share the code you used? I've tried a few X-codes and none has worked so far.

I'm on a long road trip and already ran hot once on a climb. I hate "idiot lights" because you get no warning that the trans is getting hot, just a red light telling you it has already too hot.

If you still can't get it to work, then I would call ScanGauge tech support. They are great to work with.
 
Driving to HiH two years ago. Straight through Chicago to Denver (yeah, no hills), hot ambient temps, got 150-160 on Torque app. I’m always surprised how long it takes to come up to full temp.

@Mr Plow do you have the 750 or 343 trans?
 
I have two sets of temps ( OBDLink MX+ and its app on iOS), one is pretty stable and only varies a few degrees, mid 130 F, and another, that is close to the first temp reading on cruise, but varies significantly in stop and go. Considering how quickly it heats up to 160F when stopped (and doesn't really drop till torque convertor is locked up, I'm guessing temp 2 (large quick variations) are being read inside the torque convertor, and temp 1 is probably in the heat exchanger.

Around 55mph was the lowest reading, increasing to low 140s around 65mph. It's really eye-opening to see the spike when you come to a stop at a light.

Granted, these temps are far from worrisome, and each time I measured them was at night on drive home from the freeway, but I'm primarily curious as to where the read-outs are from. Stable coolant temp of 197-9 entire time with ambient temps in the 80s. Last fluid exchange around 100k (previous owner, at dealership), just coming up on 200k

Just got my ATF working on my SGii today. Ambient temps in the mid 70s (thank you cool break!!) and my ATF was showing low 140s. Up a hill out of the neighborhood got me to 149 until I crested, then came back down to low 140s again.

I'll be towing for the first time next weekend (3000 lb hybrid camper) and I'm sure I'll be monitoring like a hawk the whole time.
 
It's not built into/ attached to the radiator?

IF he has an OEM radiator there is a cooler in the very bottom of it (separate circuit from the engine coolant). I personally haven't seen a 100 series without the Aux Cooler as well, but maybe there are some.

If he does have one...it will be mounted in front of the A/C condenser and be a unit about 10"x12" in dimension.

Just got the TFT working on my Scan Gage II thanks to this forum. Search my posts if you can't get yours to work on '06-'07. A member here got me the right code.

On my '06 the highest temp I've seen so far is 132ºF and it usually does not go above 122ºF. No big climbs around here and current ambient temps between 55-65ºF.

I'm surprised the trans temp is so low. I figure that's why Toyota specs a lighter oil for the transfer case (75W-90) as for the F/R Diffs 80W-90 or 90. The trans cooler must draw heat away from the transfer as well.

I just checked the LC100 factory brochure PDF's I have. The one for 2006 mentions "transmission oil cooler" but the other years don't.... Doesn't make sense, must be an oversight.

Man I wish I had trans temps that low, my ‘00 is running 150-165°F after about 20min of driving in the city stop & go. Complete fluid exchange done about 1.5yrs ago. I wonder if the fins in my trans cooler need to be cleaned:hmm:

That doesn’t sound that far off base if you are in city traffic. What are your trans temps on the highway?

Honestly I can't even ballpark off the top of my head because it's been so long since I've taken it on the highway; the last few trips have been in the 200. I do think it's higher around the 175-190°F range but never exceeding 200°. The highways around central and southern Arkansas are not hilly at all though.

Has anyone noticed a correlation between temp differences and the two transmission offered in the 100? I wonder if being sealed ('03+) vs. not sealed ('98-'02) plays any role in temps.
 
FWIW, I was running much lower engine and trans temps over the weekend. Lots of mountain driving, but ambien temps were ~60-70*. Huge difference over 90-100*. Engine never went over 188, trans peaked at 145 but remained in the 136 range most of the time.
