Sometimes when I'm accelerating the transmission doesn't upshift. I actually hit the limiters going up a hill from a stop light the other day.

If i let off the pedal, then it will shift. Manually shifting with the lever doesn't seem to make a difference, which makes me think it might be the solenoids.

I haven't checked my ATF in maybe 1000-2000 miles. So yeah i should check it.

Does this sound more like the kickdown cable or the solenoids?

1st thing check the condition of your oil.
It's the cheapest and easiest thing.

Hmmm. If it were just solenoids it would shift properly when manually operating the selector lever. I would say if the fluid has seen a few miles to many then replace it and also adjust your kickdown cable. You might be lacking in line pressure due to either.

Changing your fluids wont change the way it shifts based on your symptoms. Check the kick down cable first for proper adjustment and then check the cable for breaks or being pulled/routing. If those things are ok then you you may want to start doing pressure checks.

In order eliminate the solenoids from the equation, you need to disconnect the wire connector from the driver side of the trans then drive it manual only.

Had a similar problem when I had my gearbox changed with a used one
The used gearbox used to slip badly but would shift after I would stop accelerating after the oil and filter were changed. Worked okay before the oil and filter.
Had it replaced with another gearbox and that is fine now.
My car also uses the A442F

The ATF does seem a little low so i will top it up and then look into the kickdown cable
