I swapped my 1HZ for a 1HDT which bolted up to the original A442F transmission. Now the transmission is constantly overheating even though I've added an external cooler. Does anyone have an idea of what could be causing this? Thanks.

Just a thought, but does it have fresh fluid and a cleaned out filter?

Thanks for the response! Yes, I changed the filter, solenoids, and fluid recently.

Is the kickdown cable adjusted correctly? It could be holding in the wrong gear.

It's also super cold here in GA. If that is a computer controlled transmission, the capacitors will go whacky in the cold making it shift funny.

Lastly, I'm sure you know this, but you are about 1hr away from the smartest transmission guys in the country - Valley Hybrids.

Thank you. the transmission seems to shift correctly but I will have a look. It's cool in the mornings here in CA, but warms up in the afternoon. I will also reach out to Georg at Valley Hybrids. Thanks!

Does it lock-up properly in OD? When out of lock-up the torque converter generates huge heat.

The additional cooler should be added in series BEFORE the trans cooler in the bottom of the radiator. The radiator one is needed still to bring cold ATF up to proper temp for correct operation.

You can look at a new valve body that allows lock-up in 3rd and OD. This again will reduce heat and improve efficiency. They also give crisper shifts etc. Available from Aus.

Any idea what would cause a torque converter not to lock up properly?

My KZJ78 with an A343 would not reliably lock the TC- culprit was a thermostat stuck 1/3 open. ECU was apparently not seeing the temps needed to enable lockup. A442 might be siimilar?

I believe this version of the A442f is a fully hydraulic unit, so no ECU or TCU.
