Okay, here is the whole story. I bought a 1992 with a seized engine 243k miles. Engine overheated on a hill and chugged to a stop, all things pointed to overheating and seizure. Prior doing anything it cycles through the gears just fine(going from park to neutral as I pushed it around the shop). I bought a used 3fe and did a whole reseal and refresh on the engine. I pulled the old engine out with the torque converter attached because of the engine being seized, I think it was in park when I pulled the engine(may have been a mistake). I plasma cut the old flex plate gear ring off to get the torque converter off the seized engine. I replaced the torque converter with a new seal and I can not get it to spin freely. I removed and checked the shaft and torque converter were free by spinning by hand and reinstalled, still stuck with minor movement but still obviously locked up (feels like its in Park). tried different gears and pushed the vehicle forward and back(Rolls in neutral and drive gears, wont go back into park, reverse gear on the selector feels like park). Still no free movement in the torque converter. I next drained the pan to check fluid for metal, looked old and a little burned but not anything out of the ordinary for 243k miles. Transfer case functions fine. I'm assuming I made some mistake when removing the old engine and got the transmission stuck somehow. Obviously I can't install the new engine without being able to spin the torque converter and bolt to the flex plate. I have searched quite a bit on here with no luck so now am hoping someone out there can offer some insight to the innerworkings of the A440F transmission. My next thought was to install the new engine, plug everything in and get power and see if there is an electronic control that has it locked in place.
