I'm not nearly as hardcore as many here, but none the less, I'm excited buy what little skill I have....... figured I'd post my junk and it's new tube fenders in progress. I think I got lucky (or planned/measured well enough) to only screw up 1 bend, and even that was only a few degrees over bent and close enough to use anyways.

The OEM fenders were pretty beat up, they looked much worse close up.

I cut 3" out of the hood in order to lower the ride height 3". Old ride height was 6'11"..... just barely cleared my garage door.

A buddy was nice enough to loan some shop space for the winter work.

I'll be skining them in the comming days.

Thoughts?

nice bender :D

what's the bib-end support gonna be like? almost looks like it's wrapping the bib right now with sheet metal....and not anything "substantial"

I'm prolly not "hardcore" enough to worry about it!

j/k, I'll likely build a grill hoop to tie it together.

lol.....hardcore or not, yer gonna "lean" on those fenders....the old sheetmetal ones would give...these won't and will push into the radiator instead....

c'mon dude, more pics!!!

How about a spreader bar over the hood from one fender to another or maybe build a bumper, stiner and tie it into that for more support?

I supose you guys are right. Perhaps a tube under the hood to tie them together is in order.

I hate stingers, almost as much as IH8MUD

the "little" stinger on my 40 if fully functional, but not overly ugly....it's saved my radiator more than once....

either that or check out what MetalTech does for their hood guards and mimic that....

I thought I posted on this, but guess it's stuck in limbo or another thread - duh! Anyways - you're gonna take advantage of how stout those are and you'll lean into or hit them - then you'll roast something, best case, bending your nice work.

The stinger on the front of the 40 is awesome - helps me push up and over larger rocks!

Other than that - I had posted that you're square bezel/headlight Land Cruiser looks rare - I've never seen one like that. I think the bezel is upside down too :flipoff2:.

The whole "to the frame" thing is what I'm not completely clear about.

On one hand the body is suposed to be isolated with bushings from the frame.

On the other hand, the cage should be tied into the frame....... mine isn't YET!

I'm kinda, sorta waiting until the last minute to tie 'it' all to the frame because I'm not totaly clear how to do it.

Again:

On one hand, use bushings.

On the hand, tie it in hard, no bushings.........

I guess that's why Pres. Ford wanted a one handed Econimist.... ugh

If none of this makes sence, blame Crown Royal

WOODY!! WTF are the emoticons??? Copying properties and pasting said properties SUCKS! Yeah, I suck at the internet..........that's not news.

cut off the shock towers and bring down a frame support integrated into tubular shock towers, that would work and look clean as well:idea:

Make the entire chassis rigid, cage to frame with proper bracing so the frame won't/can't flex, then you do not have to worry about differential between chassis to body flex because nothing will move relative to each other making the rubber body mounts negated at which you can replace them with aluminum or steel. Or you can be like almost everyone else and just disregard the whole issue and think safety first as this is a wheeling truck...

Tube work looks good BTW

really diggin the lines. i agree stingers are not the most visually appealing thing but they can be functional mine is bent to prove it.

Thanks guys!

Notching and fitting took forever. I began skinning them lastnight. Pic's soon
