Roof rack is up next I believe. As much as I wanna do my rear bumper. I wanna mount my snorkel and I think snorkels look better with roof racks. I still gotta hook up the bumper light and plumb my on board air. As well as refinish my winch. The paint on that looks like sh*t. So I can't hang that on that bumper.

What direction are you thinking of going with the roof rack? Flat, sides, high, low? I love my baja rack but wish it were a little more low profile.

Amazing skill and workmanship. Wish I could weld like that. Keep up the good work.

love it!

Beautiful build.. exactly the kind of bumper I would like my 80 to progressed with.

With the lack of cupholder options out there, I think what sells me about your bumper design is that bottle holder.... Seriously though nice design. I like all the utility built into it.

Serious thought went into that bumper. Great job with the design and a better job with the fabrication. I like how you recessed the HAAS type fairlead

Pretty badass bumper! Props! The angles and fab work are top notch, and dammit those bottle openers are even better! As I look and enjoy the fan work, maybe I missed it in the thread, what are the outer corner horseshoe looking hoops you welded on for? Really got me curious!

Sick sick SICK!!!!! Mad skills you have there. Damn fine looking bumper. More info on your portaband stand?

That is too damn cool. I only wish you didn't paint it black :)

put some tack welds on that light bar. I just had mine stolen in Vegas "valet parked" at The Palazzo...oh sorry, we don't have cameras in the parking lots..

Very nice build and some novel solutions! I have a few technical questions as I'd like to learn from this build - I hobby weld and am also learning to smith.

Do you not see rust contamination of the stainless when you use both steel and the stainless together? How do you prevent it from being a problem?

I'd like to know more about this tool - especially the bit -

Thank you. I try. Here is what I got done over the last two days in between things. The winch mounts are in and the mounting bolts are recessed. View attachment 1084094

Thanks

Sweet bumper. Do you have a solidworks file for that which you'd be willing to pass out?

For the rack I'm going low and flat. I'm thinking a 1.5" bent square tube outer main frame ( thin gauge steel ) with extruded aluminum crossbars for lots of mounting options ( like the one on boxrockets) We use that material at work so I have access to all kinds of t slot brackets and things. There will be stainless steel accessories/accents . ( kind of my signature if you didn't notice, I mix metals a lot ). And an ultra light sleeping setup.

I made the portaband saw stand a while ago. You can't find a decent metal bandsaw anywhere for a reasonable price. So out of aggravation I made that out of some scrap from work. It works awesome and only has one thumb screw holding the saw to the table. I use it for all my brackets and tabs. I put finger holes in the deck so you can squeeze the material into the blade with more control than pushing. Cause it is so light it has a tendency to want to tip if you push thick material to hard. So the squeeze holes help with that. It has cut everything I put through it. I used it to cut the wedge out of stainless tube for the bottle opener on the bumper. Pm me for anymore details. Also now there are a couple companies selling mounts for saws now. Swag offroad is one. But you could easily make your own.
