Well, I am not even sure I should be posting this, but withmy wrenching reputation already in the gutterbecause of the "monkey boy" legend I figured I have nothing to lose
Many of you know the battles I have fought with my carb. over the past month causing me miss the Tellico trip and arrive an hour late to the annual meet. I have been dumbfound by my carb. which would run and idle perfectly smooth until I reached any rpms above 2000 or I put the cruser under any load, then it was a gutless wonder. I thought it was fuel starvation or ignition issues. I have talked with many of you about possible sources of this problem and I posted a few treads in the tech section here on mud. From all the suggestions I have replaced, all my fuel lines, fuel filter, fuel pump, ingnition coil, spark plug wires, and about went through about 4 sets of plugs. My next step was going to be to have my tank boiled and maybe replacing the distributor if that didn' work. Well luckly I won't need to do either of those.
You guys all remember my brief stint with the turbo on my 2F. Well to the run the turbo I had to fabricate any adapter to hook up the forced air line from the turbo to the top of the carb. after the removal of the turbo system I was still running the adapter due to the fact I had no stock airfilter housing. It turns out my power robbing problem was due to this adapter. It was greatly restricting the the air flow at higher rpms making me lose power and sputter out
. I removed this adapter today only because I am removing the current carb. on my 40 to return it to its' owner, Alan. Once I had the adapter removed I decided to try a short drive around the block just to see if by chance this might help out my problem. Before I knew it I was hitting 60mph going up hill!!!!!!!!!!!
So you guys now have one more thing to hold over my head :whoops: ..................
It really disgusts me knowing now that the reason I missed the Tellico trip which I planned and had been looking forward to for months was my own doing
. This has been a lesson learned the hard way...............
On the bright side though, I feel a burden has been lifted
So as soon as I get my carb. back from Marks off road, the 40 will be back up and running and READY FOR SOME ACTION..
Flame away guys, I know you want to Marshall
