Your are assuming Im not gonna pay TorFab to do the Turbo eitheir^^^^ I stand with the above remarks. You can have more than enough HP and torque out of the 1fz for a fraction of the cost of a swap that you know you will pay Torfab to do. So what if mpg are lower than the other options. You can buy A LOT of fuel for the cost of a professional swap. If you want to swap just to experience something completely different, that’s something else but to swap for more power or better mpg’s is not warranted.
Cruisers and Company are putting 365 AWD HP on the ground with a bolt on 14psi turbo kit. That’s in the neighborhood of 455hp at the crank. And who says you have to be limited to 14psi??? Think of a the first turbo as N1 and its twin as N2![]()

But, after being bullied by you guys and some further consideration, Im very inclined in keeping this Toyota.

@SteelHunterFJ80 did a really good job selling the 1HD route.
But a C&C stage 2 paired up with a manual transmission also sounds like a lot of fun.
I dont worry about MPG on the fuel cost side of things, but it would be nicer to get a better range out of the stock fuel tank.
Imma gonna have to sit on this for a couple mounts until I get some extra funds tho. So plenty of time to overthink the s*** out of this![]()

I will wrap up with some math that is all applicable to this debate. First if your running a turbocharged gasser you gotta buy premium so in my area I often get diesel the same or more often 30 cents cheaper. 20 gallons x 4.50 a gallon in gasoline here comes to $90 (about where the fuel light comes on) and lasts about 260 miles at 13 mpg. 10,000 miles a year comes to 38.4 tanks totaling $3461. Now diesel, 20 gallons x $4.20 a gallon comes to $84 and lasts me about 460 miles at 23 mpg. 10,000 miles a year comes to 21.7 tanks totaling $1826. 5 years of ownership comes to $9,130 in savings of diesel vs gas. Thats something. And the thing is that fuel costs go up over time, they never fall back to where they were. So the sooner you do it the more you save. And I will close with the fact that I paid less for my 1hdft than Cruiser Company's kit. I am not saying that my way is cheaper, but I am saying the numbers are closer than people would initially think.

- And probably one of the most important reason, the 80 was designed for 1HDT/1HDFT/1HDFTE. Everything fits as it should.
- All parts and performance have decades of performance proven in the field in very tough conditions.
- A 1HDFT swap is much much easier than a 1HDFTE for the lay person because of the electronics required in the FTE in my opinion, but I understand that you can now order complete looms for the 1HDFTE from down under.
- I would rather have more torque than hp in a off road truck, better for the application in my opinion so a diesel has an advantage there.

A gas vs diesel would net out perfectly only if diesel price was almost double premium gasoline which I don't see happening. Anyway, my point was keeping it Toyota and and the engine is a direct fit.
Surprisingly, before tariffs and all, a short block 1hdft/e was only $5000 new. Personally, if I was @250below10 I would be planning and saving for when tariffs are over in about 3 years.....unless you can find one amongst the classifieds here in the states.

I can measure later but I think you might have room to mount the jack on the inside.Whoa, I had never seen someone mount the geri on the back like that. I've kind of wondered all the uses for that panel. Ideally I wish I could fit my badlands 3T jack inside. That would make the panel super useful. But the weight on the back with a 35" spare would be tremendous. Especially if fuel was also back there.
