Hey guy just wanted to let you know my friend offered us her house cheap. I don't know how far it is from the trails but it could be something for those who don't want to camp and would like a bed at night. There are tons of places to camp around there and a nice big fishing stream running in front of the house. As well the river is just a mile away for tubbing during the summer. Just thouht I would share.

looks to be about probaly a 15-25 minute ride from the trail heads........ so not terribly far, as the crow flys it is really close but there are not any straight roads in the mountains :grinpimp:

Is that the price for anyone? Man that would be a sweet place to go on a vaction. And its cheap!!!

Holy frick! If that is where i think it is, a bunch of delta zeta chicks used to live there when i was in school. I have pulled enough wool in that house to knit a sweater.

It's about 5 minutes from caney fork rd.

oh, and there used to be a serious 4 wheelin' trail at the top of speedwell rd. that would run all the way to Franklin, NC. I wonder if it's still there?

Did you know anybody from Winthrop? I'm pretty sure stephanie was a dz. I think. I don't remember her ever telling me she had friends living there. Mostly she goes up there once or twice a year. SHe always has a big weekend party every summer. I usually go up and fix everything that is broken. It's no the nicest house but for a nice mountain getaway it's perfect.

And yes there still should be a nice 4x4 trail at the top of the road. I only took the Touareg up there once and I was not abolut to screw it up. I have no idea how far it goes though. From what I remember it was pretty hard. Maybe this is something we should put together later this summer. It's got A/C so the heat shouldn't be a problem. You know us old folk cannot stand the heat.

I'll ask her about others renting it out. She just sent the e-mail to her friends. I don't know what she would think about total strangers renting it out. I would have no problem in her letting me stay there with 20 of my closest friends hanging out.:D

SHe has always offered it for free to me. Because I fix everything. Maybe she would let us stay free if we did a little work around the house. I've still got to finish siding the shed out back.

Allright, i'll let yall in on a little secret. . . . there are MORE wheelin' trails i haven't shown you all yet. :)

Seriously, there used to be a route that i knew from my grouse hunting days. Go up speedwell road and hang to the left at the bridge (if that is the correct house then the fork is about 4-5 minutes up the road) When you get to a really big black angus filled pasture with a huge horse barn there is a gravel road that runs up the mountain off to your right. I knew the kid who lived in a trailer up there and we would run around up there playing paint ball. But, his land bordered game land. We would usually park up the gravel road around 3,000 ft. elevation and start walking with 12 guages shooting grouse. But, the gravel road got very difficult and eventually turned into a wheelin' trail. That trail would run up the ridge and connect into a trail at the top of speedwell road that ran all the way to franklin. Only problem is the last time i rode up there on my dirtbike, there were lots being surveyed in, so some of the access we used to hop onto the trailhead may be gone. Still worth a checking out though for sure.

There are a couple of trails i would like to show you guys that i don't know where they go.

Troll, I did know a girl named stephanie. I'm not sure what school she was from. Ask her if she knows sarah bradley from old fort.
