Hello All,

Didn't think this was possible with my 99 Cruiser with only 150K miles on it, but driving down the highway in the UP this past weekend my T Case went out. Now I'm faced with installing used or remanufactured from Toyo. Anyone else have/had that problem or can help guide me on how to prevent?

Sorry to hear about that. This is the first real T-case problem I've heard of on the board that doesn't sound like a production problem.

Were there any warning signs?

What was the maintenance history?

Go with a reman and I doubt you'll have any problems. A used unit might be fine too since there are so few reported problems.

I know of a '99 T-case here in AZ where are you located?

These can fail with mismatched tires (replacing only 2 instead of all four/different tire sizes/poorly worn tires). Are you sure its not the center differential?

Maybe I'm thinking of the FJ80.......

I think you might be referring to the viscous coupler in the t-case on the 80...

You are thinking of the FJ80's transfer case. But if the OP was running staggered tires, it could cause the TC to overheat and fail. That wouldn't be likely though, unless you were running massively different sizes. It probably wouldn't be caused by just new tires in the back and old in the front. When was the last time you changed the diff fluids?

Have you checked how much oil is in the t-case? If you had a leak and it got low...

:flipoff2:Welcome. I had a leaky front and rear t-case seal. I try to stay away from mud that is deeper than the hubs. Got it repaired without further issues. Where are you? They can be removed and repaired fairly easily. Did you abuse it? Drove 1000 miles on the pavement with center diff locked? when did you last check fluids? Some trucks have problems with pumping gear oil out of the t-case and into the tranny when the seal goes bad between them. Never heard of it with the 100. how do you know it's a t-case problem? Did it seize? break the case? tell us more please. Sorry you're having problems.
