So here is the deal if i go any faster than 60 my truck starts groaning and it feels like something is binding. Its not a smooth ride any more. I took it to the dealer and they are saying that the front differential is bad and its acting like its continuously locked. Now ive replaced the yokes in the past and it helped a little but now its bad. What do you all think?

Maybe drain the front diff and look for chunks of metal. Usually front diff failures have been much more dramatic. There are a lot of parts in the front drivetrain that could wear out. U-joints, wheel bearings, cv-joints ect...

I doubt that replacing the yokes will have anything to do with what you are dealing with now.

Mileage ?

It has about 126000. Ill drain the front on monday. It seems to be more of a problem when theres a lot of weight in the car, also i notice that when i let go of the gas to coast at around 40mph i hear/feel a faint clicking and it goes away when i engage the center lock.

I would drain the T-case too since you will be underneath and smell of gear lube already.

I drained the back and put 80w-90 for lsd in the back and 75w-90 gl-5 in the t-case friday. It was a little better but its not gone.

Have you noticed if the groaning gets stronger or weaker depending on whether or not the engine is applying torque while traveling 60mph+?

I recently noticed a new, and very pronounced, "groan" that starts at 60mph+, but only occurs while the drive train/engine are under load. If I take the foot of the pedal, and let the truck coast, the noise goes away. Then once I apply gas again, the groan comes back immediately--more gas, more groan.

Just wondering if this could be the same thing (I have not yet figured out the source... :frown:)

Sonk, I have the EXACT same thing happening with mine. I even replaced the front diff with a factory assembled unit, and am still getting the groan between 65-75 only. Take my foot off the gas and it's smooth, give it some load and it starts groaning and I feel a vibration through the pedals.

If you ever figure out what it is, please let us know.

This all started for me when I blew something in my front diff the other weekend. I'm replacing the diff with an arb next week and was hoping that this would fix things. That said, my front differential is completely disconnected from the drive train (hubs are disconnected as is the front drive shaft) so it should not be spinning at all while I drive. Yet, i still hear the groan, which makes me fear that it maybe something outside the front diff... Perhaps in the transfer case... But it does "feel" like it is comig from the front. So could be wheel bearings? Not sure. I'm no expert on this.

I'll let you know how things develop. Please do same in case you find out something more...

Well not to put a monkey wrench in here but I had what sounds like the same groan but mine was worse under acceleration and lessened when coasting. Its a long long story but it turned out to be a combination of rear pinion bearing failing (failed!) and rear wheel bearings that were toast.

Before the rear pinion bearing and axle bearings actually failed I, apart of trying to figure out where the vibe and groan was coming from, disconnected the front drive-shaft and 95% of the vibe and noise disappeared! Driveline noises and vibes are very tough to track down...and in my case it wasn't anything to do with the front drive system (even though the noise went away without the front drive shaft in place)...

Be sure to check those upper and lower rear control arm bushings too! You really need to remove the arms to determine if the bushings are worn or not...
