My girlfriend has a 99 4 runner with a V6 that has 125,000 miles. The cars maintance history is non-existent and she seems to believe that I should help her remedy this problem. Ive looked through the owners manual and am just wondering what the big things are that I should concentrate on doing. How difficult is maintance on this thing compared to the maintance on my 97 Land Cruiser.
Thanks in Advance.

is it a 4x4? I think the biggest thing you need to do the timming belt next would be to repack the front wheel bearings. Bearing repack is a 60k service, sort of like the bir's on the 80 so I'm sure your girls runner is due. This is often overlooked and really it's not as crucial but should be done. I'd change, the axle and tranfer case fluids. and tranny fluid regaurdless of auto or not. also if it is a 4wheel drive, check the front axle boots, they will split after that many miles without manual hubs. you could change power steering fluid, brake fluid, coolant. also I belive the plugs in it are platinum which should be changed around 100k.

if you really want to do more work you could check and if needed change the brushes in the alt. and check to see if the valve cover is begining to link.

Yes it is a 4wd model...I will start on the fluid changes and stuff this weekend that I can do easily...Im not to sure about doing the timing belt myself...plugs and wires should not be bad from what I see on it...wheel bearing will have to wait until I get a chance to do my own OME lift on my 80
