I hope they DO!! Just makes mine look better:smokin:

Like I said before, asking and getting are two different things but that price is rediculous.

I feel like this truck was for sale just a week ago for 9k...but there have been a ton for sale lately.

at least it's locked :hmm:

Yeah at least. Interesting but your signature adds to my suspicion that these rigs go in and out of circulation, which may be cyclical. Heck I've thrown some back in myself but current asking prices are getting pretty ridiculous. Just need to know when and from where to buy I guess. IMO worst places to buy is here and eBay....they are looking very similar nowadays.

This is my Cruiser listed on eBay. No stories. I spent a lot of time and energy not only finding one this color, rust free with lockers, and clean to start with etc. but also in putting the extra attention in bringing it up to the condition it's currently in.

I've watched a lot of these sell over the past few years and haven't found one for sale that meets all that this does (under 200k, absolutely rust free, very clean paint and interior, lockers).

Am I negotiable - yes. But again, I've got a lot in this one and believe I'm not asking an unreasonable amount. Plus I am getting a lot of questions.

I would say nearly $25k is definitely an unreasonable amount. You can get an imported diesel one with less miles for like $18k these days.

That said, GLWS if you actually find a buyer willing to pay near your asking price I think that is good news for all of us owners on this board.

The starting price is $21,500 - not $25k. But man, have some pride in your vehicles fellas. All you guys love to beat up each other on price, I see this a lot on this forum. I'd think you'd be excited to see people getting more for these trucks - which is what I'm seeing. The guys on the supra forum get excited to hear when one goes for good money.

But again, show me a vehicle as clean as this one, with these same options for less. I think they're very rare. But hey, we'll see what happens, and when it does sell (in this auction or down the road), I know the new owner will be super happy.

No doubt looks like a nice one. You are right that this forum gets opinionated on pricing, nature of the neighborhood. All the same, it's a fine line. I for one am happy when prices go up, as long as I am not trying to buy one :) Some feel when trucks are posted at absurdly high prices that it artificially gives false price hope to real sellers and so the trashed 80 with 250k is listed for $10k, they price by comparison of listings rather than real selling prices. This pricing discussion is old topic :deadhorse:

I love the Collectors Editions myself, and yours is a nice one. You never know somebody with no concern for price at all might see it and pay cash on the spot. I sold an unlocked Desert Dune Collectors with 105K miles on about a year and half ago for $8K. Silly me. I buy high and sell low.

That paint match is horrible on the hood, I noticed it right away before even reading the ad. Also why would you buy a whole new hood instead of repaint the original? The roof has lots of holes from that roof rack. Needs to removed and the roof repaired. Why was the radiator replaced? Did it overheat? Is that distributor cap an oem replacement or aftermarket? Missing the oem battery hold down? Brake fluid is nice & dark. The trim piece on the passenger side fender is crooked or falling off? The leather isn't in the greatest 20k condition either.

As far as major maintenance goes have you:
rebuilt the birfs?
replaced the oil pump gasket?
replaced the head gasket?

If you have done all 3 then i'd say it's worth close to 20k. As is maybe 10-12k to the right buyer.

Hah - you're a piece of work. You're assessment is off. Hood is original - original VIN, paint is a perfect match (not sure what you're seeing). Trim piece is tight and fine. Brake fluid, knuckles, etc. all perfectly fine and checked over by Toyota. No HG issue. Check your facts but HG is not as notorious as you are alluding to - typically failure is a result of over heating. Replaced the radiator because I broke the darn hose nipple up top when cleaning the motor (mechanic can attest to this - and I towed it with AAA from my driveway to shop just to be safe). What are you talking about in regards to the roof rack? I took off the OEM rack, pulled it apart piece by piece, professionally powder coated it like Toyota did, and put it back on - into all original holes.

Seems like your on a mission to throw darts - any reason why?

Wow you don't even know your own story you typed? You clearly say in the ad you replaced the hood. It's not a perfect color match. I can clearly see it with super duper ultra high def monitor. Dark brake fluid is not fine. Toyota checking the birfs means nothing, they have to be rebuilt at a certain mileage. With your asking price one would assume you had the work done so the next owner wouldn't have to worry about it. No one is saying your rig has a head gasket issue, again i'm referring to all the preventative maintenance it will need soon. But since you are asking 21.5k one would assume you already took care of that so the next owner could be "happy".

What about the distributor cap? aftermarket special or oem? When you had it at toyota why didn't you buy a new oem battery hold down?

I'm not throwing darts just trying to justify the price and bring you back to reality. If i saw it in person i'm sure i could find lot's more wrong with it.

Oh what about drive line fluids? diffs? transfer case? Have you invested in that preventative maintenance? Fuel filter? Phh? Red toyota coolant installed or green? I could go on. These are all things the next owner is going to have to spend $ on plus your selling price. At that point it's too much.

I welcome you to come take a look in person. My write up states that I replaced various interior parts, (comma) bumpers, hood were painted, not replaced. Hood match is perfect.

I've not owned the truck since day one so yes, I can't speak to absolutely all maintenance. What I know satisfied me fully when I bought the truck. All fluids were checked and looked fine (was told diff fluids done), red Toyota coolant used, fuel filter done. Rotors have been replaced along with pads (both OEM). Steering is tight and the birfs are fine.

I'll look into the distributor cap - as I don't know. What is your concern with that?

Can you also show me a truck for $20k w/ less than 200k miles, rust free, lockers, in this condition that's for sale?

Hood match no good? And fenders were not blended in - which goes to show how good the body shop is.

What's wrong with distributor cap? Yes, I'll put the battery tie down back on.

In southern California, I see some pretty high prices... this truck looks good though, and you'd probably get close to what you're asking for.

Just feels like the last couple years the 60 and 80 series have been getting EXTREMELY popular around here... prices are definitely rising.

I paid $21,000 three months ago for a 1997 with 76k original miles, locked, OME, etc and thought I got a hell of deal and get asked to sell it all the time.
It's one I won't sell unless I find a better one. I've had some really nice locked ones over the years and every year they seem to go up in price. But to all the naysayers the bottom line a nice 80 series is simply worth what someone is willing to pay. And if you currently own one don't hate the higher prices. The same opinions were made years ago on the FJ40 and look at what suckers are going for, I wish I'd bought 4 or 5 of them back then.
Best to all of mud.

Nice truck Perfectmax. Many people will have a lot of opinions, but the only one that matters is from the guy standing there looking at it with cash in hand. I never I saw your ad last night while goofing around on craigslist - I love it. Stick to your guns - with patience I bet you find a buyer for a price you like.

For those who've inquired, I believe the truck is sold. I'll reach out to you should something change.

Thanks!

Perfectmax, as another enthusiast who also has an all-original "garage queen" in the collection--and who values these like-new, all-original preservations, I just want to say that you have a beautiful example here. I love how clean the interior is. I love that it's a collectors. I love that it's locked, and I love this particular color on the Collectors. I have a black 97 CE also triple-locked. I suspect the people disparaging you don't even know what these super clean ones are like in person. At the end of the day, any item is worth what the highest bidder will pay for it. And as the years tick by, the pristine cosmetic condition on examples like yours will only continue to increase in value. What would it cost to buy a normal, worn example from your year and purchase all the cosmetic parts to restore it to a condition like yours...probably as much or more than you are asking. All of that to say, best of luck to you from another CruiserHead. Keep enjoying the hobby, with those you wheel and those you garage, both. And don't let any of the haters steal your joy.
