swapped a 94 1fz-fe into my 93. Both vehicles ran and drove before engines were pulled. Have gone through the emergency troubleshooting thread. Replaced fusible links, relays and fuses. Cleaned and double checked all grounds verifying less than 1 ohm. Verified battery 12.46 volts and same power to starter. Put new terminals on. Verified ecm plugged in properly. Transmission shift linkage installed correctly and vehicle is in park. Alarm seems to be functioning properly. Before I swap the NSS and the starter can anyone think of something I may have missed? I am noticing there is no check engine light on with key in on position. All other lights on. Only noise I hear when trying to start is a click from the relay on driver side side panel.

Check the fusible links for continuity again, a short in the harness may have cooked AM2. My bet it that a weakness in the engine wire harness has been brought to light. An engine swap requires that the harness be disturbed and forced to flex in ways it hasn’t since it was installed last century.

I’m going though a similar scenario after a simple upper plenum removal where I also wrapped the harness near the egr thinking I was helping. My activity upset an old, crispy wire harness and when I started it up it ran well for ten minutes then an injector hung open. At this point the CEL was also not illuminating with key ON.

Many of us have experienced all sorts of problems that were traced back to that spot on the engine harness where it routes near the egr plumbing.

If you don’t have a FSM, this would be a good time to get one.

Thank you. I will check that.

Is it turning over at all? I just went through the same thing.

Did you check the big ground wire that goes on the side of the block? If it is turning over, have you checked spark? fuel?

Verified continuity on both fuseable links. The old one and the new one. Both good. Replaced NSS and the starter. And still no crank. The only noise is 2 clicks from the relay on driver side. Put a jumper pack on the battery just to be double sure and still nothing. I have no idea where to go from here. Has to be a problem with the wire harness I suppose.

It is not turning over at all. I checked continuity to said ground wire and cleaned and sanded the block and ground wire.

Continuity means nothing! Can it carry the load? Sometimes you get continuity but once you ask for amperage it fails.....it’s not clear, but did you try a new fusible link?

I believe I have isolated the issue to a problem between the 50 amp am1 fuse and the NSS. I have power to and from the 50A fuse but no power to the NSS. Checked for power to the NSS from the large black and the large white wire going into the NSS while I had someone turn the key and nothing. Also checked the starter cut relay tied to the alarm and it was good. Jumped it just to make sure. All dash lights work except the cel when key is in the on position. I'm completely stumped after dozens of hours of troubleshooting and research. Any ideas?

If you have power after the 50a fuse ( Back Wire ) but no power to the NSS ( Black and white wire), my guess is probably your Ignition switch.

If no CEL with key in run position, it will not start. ECU is not in a ready state.
Fusible link
NSS
Alarm ignition interrupt
