Hey Guys

My rig has a POS aftermarket radiator that the PO had installed and it has just started seeping at the seems. I just noticed this after a long trip and am lucky it didnt let go.

Dan is @ Moab and i am trying to get a cost of what an OEM one is new.

Anyone bought one from Dan recently or know the smartshopper price? I am trying to plan my repair and really want to go with OEM.

Thanks
Kevin

Not that I know of. I'll be with cdan Tuesday night if you can't get anyone and I can ask him then.

Dan recently (3/4 days ago?) specified who would be best to speak to, you should probley look at his recent threads to be sure.

probably any of them will be able to help

I think Dan wanted us to talk to Max or Antonio - he prolly gave them the voodoo needles to hold while he's wheelin. HTH

Curious, who actually makes the Toyota branded radiators? Or does toyota make their own?

BTW, if you have an aftermarket radiator that is all metal, and the end tanks seals are seeping like mine were, you can have the end caps brazed/soldered to seal again. It ran me about $100 to do that, but if you can pull your own radiator and take it to a shop, I'm sure it would be cheaper.

BM, you know about brass vs not brass etc, correct?

Not really, but from all the searching i have done, it appears the 93-94 version is the best one to use.

Anymore info you care to share would be great. I need to order this ASAP

Thanks

just meant to say that it seems like folks are trying to get the full brass affair, at least for the later years when it wasn't OEM any more IIRC. Don't know if you have a choice for the 93s.

The typical OEM rad mfr was Denso....though I don't find a SINGLE logo or anything like that on mine. The replacement rad (for Toyota) manufacturer was Toyo Denso, though again, your results may vary. I have a friend at Toyota SPO who might be able to delve into this for me...I'll ask, and post if I get an answer.

Now as to the urban legend of the superiority of copper/brass core vs. aluminum core...

I believe Koyo manufactured the OEM radiators.

You can check SOR's online catalog for Toyota list prices.

Hello all, my name is JC and I'm a NOOB here .......Boston and all who are interested I am also in need of a radiator and so I have spent some time researching here/cyberspace and the real world. This is what I have learned: (btw because I am located in Cali some info may not apply to you)

Radiator Barn $324.74 all metal/copper 3 core manufacture by CSF OEM type
Radiator.Com $270 Plastic/copper OEM
Radiator Works $330 Plastic/copper (web price)
$246 All metal/copper CSF OEM type install $105 local in the SF Valley
Hamer Toyota (offers TLCA discount) $597.37 Retail $434.53 Discount
labor $170
TLC $1930 includes: new radiator, t/stat,belts,rad cap, flush block

they did a vehicle inspection for me after my local dealer i felt let me down and after a few days of searching your site I decided to set out to help my self save money and now am offering the information to the rest of you folks.

In addition as I understand it the differences between the oem plastic type radiators is: the copper core variety have 3 cores while the Aluminium has only 2 cores. So perhaps the extra row is the reason some for the improved performance.

Cheers,

looking forward to learning more from the collective and enjoying my Cruiser.:)

thanks for the info don

i went with an OEM one, costs about $440 or so SHIPPED from a dealer that gives the "TLCA" discount
