I can't find you on ebay. Can you please post the link to your profile?
It’s not me, just a guy on here that does it. After a quick google search, I found him on eBay.

Not to fully derail, but is availability on these as bad for all years or just the 93-94? I have a 91 and suspect an issue...

I might send mine ('94) his way as well. I've been chasing an intermittent issue for months that I suspect might be tied to the VAFM. If $100 solves the problem, I'll be over the moon.

Just to report back. The AFM does work as advertised. It seems like the spring tension on the door for the meter isn’t as good as the one that was on it, but I’ve put 3k-ish miles on the truck with this rebuilt unit and it does work.
Hi what engine are you running is it the 1fz-fe?

I purposely avoided the eBay dude and went with Bavarian Restorations. It is more expensive but in my experience with BOTH eBay dude and BavRest, I can undoubtedly state, you get what you pay for.
I’m glad the eBay guy is working out for several folks, I personally didn’t like his work, it wasn’t top notch like BavRest.

eBay dude spray paints the exterior, strips out the screws on the bottom of the VAF, uses very little silicone on the plastic cover up top, and minor details that doesn’t bolster my confidence in his work. Also, my truck had his vaf in it and it needed repair again. I sent it to BavRest.

So far, 500+ miles and zero issues.

I think this is well-taken criticism. I may send out my original to BavRest and keep the one I have on now as a spare. It probably has a lot to do with what your particular VAF issue is, too, as to which works for you. You are correct that Resurrected Auto does not, at least in our cases, use enough silicone on the plastic cover. Really hard to understand that one.

Yeah, I don’t want to bash him. He offers a service that not a lot of places offer. I had many discussions with him about the VAFs he sells prior to my purchase. I bought a VAF from his eBay site, I offered $320 which he accepted. He told me this VAF was never opened, had no issues and would work without issue. However, when I got it delivered, I was able to immediately identify that the VAF was in fact opened up due to the stripped screws and lack of silicone.

A few more “back and forths” with him about how I felt he misrepresented the product went nowhere. I just sent it back and got my money refunded.

Of everything on my 94, the VAF is the one component w/o a workaround that is unobtanium and could brick my truck. It scares me and I wish Toyota would kindly make a run of these parts as so many trucks are still on the road. It's certainly not like any of the components inside have gone EOL.

100% agree. I so wish there was a workaround or a MAF switch. This thread has actually enticed me to get my old one serviced ASAP so I know I have a working spare.

Resurrection time.

The ebay items discussed previously are not available any more or I cannot find them. I searched by the item number and by description as well.

I got this 1997 TLC with a long history of MAF issues.
All I find in terms of MAF sensors is up to 95.

The last time I took it to a mechanic he ordered 3 MAFs to replace my faulty one and each one of them made the engine run worse.
He ended up cleaning up the one I have on the car and it ran very nicely for 3 months. Now I got another CEL on.
I need to check the codes, but I am pretty sure what it is as I can smell the fumes around my car (running rich as before).

Are the 95 MAFs different then those for 97?
I see different part numbers on those, so I am thinking maybe the mechanic ordered what he found available (95) and that's the reason my engine did not run well. Maybe????

By checking the Toyota part number I found 22250-66050 to be the one need in my case. This is a $1000 deal sadly.
Everything else seems to be very cheap in comparison (other model years).

What do you guys thing my options would be?
Bavarian Restoration?
A MAF conversion to a different model year? (housing included)

I tried the 4Runner sensor route, also switched the wires around but no luck there.

V8 swap? :D

This is a VAF vain air flow meter that the thread is about. You are lucky to have a 97 which has a MAF mass air flow sensor. I have never heard of one going bad they are usually just cleaned and your back to spec. If your using aftermarket than that’s your issue. Reach out to the guys in the parting out section and they will have a MAF for a 97 as they are not a part that fails often. @swamp-thing probably had a few.

indeed, thanks for the mention Wes, @Dragos80 I should have the afm you need, i can confirm part numbers tomorrow, please message me directly if you want to discuss.

Thank you.
I had no idea about the differences between model years. I simply assumed 4.5L engines are the same.
