I know this is the truck section but Im hoping the camry engine is the same. A friend of mine was offered a free 92 camry that needs a new timing belt and Im wondering if the engine is an interference or non interference type.
I think thats the right term for it when the valves and the pistons collide when the belt goes on certain engines.Thanks

Engines aren't the same. I would think that it is, but who knows?

You need to know what engine it is. Then call a Toyota repair shop or dealer.

If it's an interference engine that "needs a timing belt", it may already have been "interfered with".

In general, Toyota belted engines are non interference and chained engines are interference, but there may be exceptions.

Camry engine is not the same as a truck.

Is it a v6 (2vzfe)or a 4 banger? anyway I believe both are non interference, at least my v6 is. Took me about 6 hrs to do the timing belt and I would buy a new water pump too.

whoops - the 92 is the next body up from mine so the engines are different than mine., but I think everything still applies. My folks have a new avalon and the motor looks the same as my old v6 just alot newer.
