Hello all, just joined the forums!
Thinking about purchasing this after an inspection

TOYOTA LAND CRUISER in CALGARY, AB - AutoTrader,,

Any info on the gas mileage on this thing? Reliability? The sport/normal ride button is broken, is that a big deal?
Any other general info would be great!

Thanks
Tyler

*edit* the cylinder head has been replaced will find out which one ASAP

Okay thanks.. yeah it has a new cylinder head upgraded i guess

As I have posted numerous times before under the Radd Cruisers account, these vehicles have very problematic engines and they are not worth getting in to. Even with the cylinder head replaced, there are numerous engine problems that will plague these units...

DO NOT BUY A PRADO... it's that simple.

From what i have read on hear over the past few days about these motors they will cost you way more than the trucks worth in the long run and the motor is best suit as a boat anchor

does nobody use the search engine any longer?

do a search before you buy, not after and go "oh s***, i didn't know"

Just a pity there is not a simple engine swap available

If they were in Aus im sure the v6 holden motors would be pretty good they are pretty common in hiluxs and bunderas

I don´t think the Prado/Bundeera dieselengins are that bad that all says on this forum.
OK,they are not in the same class as the heavyduty models dieselengins which will run a problem free 500000km

And NO i am not used to write in english...

They are total garbage... what can I say? I work on these things regularly and they are garbage. If you don't wan to believe me, that's okay.

My professional opinion is to stay away from anything this is powered by a 2LTE engine.

John, you can lead a horse to water... but you can't make him drink.

if he wants to beleive otherwise that is up to him.

i have been proclaiming these L series s*** for how long now? if they weren't i could sell dozens of them.

Well, then, I'm going to flog the damn horse until PETA comes and locks me up.

sure there is, the 22RE gasser...

I would probably go with a 1KZ T,5LE or 3L in that order.
Also there were no issues with any of the L engines till they put turbos on them, except that they were woefully underpowered. They make an ideal farmers runabout though

The V6 Holden/Buick engine on gas would be ok if you can sort out the cooling problems.
I would also like to see someone work out an Isuzu turbo diesel swap for a LJ7*

puke, but the Isuzu is a good idea. i love my 2.8...

elec controlled KZ... no thanks.
the 3L, you already know my take on that POS.

My customers have had pretty good success with the 3L in various models.

They seem to take a thrashing and hold up well...

and i have seen dead heads, poor fuel milage and it is a slug... nothing good in my books

but ...

if you like it. fine by me.

i won't sell one or own one. the risk is too high.

<and what is with the prices in Japan for the KZ units, they are costing the same as a HDJ lately. >

Since when was the 1KZ T electrically controlled?.
So whats wrong with the 3L,any personal experience? Sure its a little slow ,but not everyone needs top speed.
Without a turbo its as reliable as any of the 6 cyl cruiser engines, prove me wrong
