upgrade I routinely get 300 miles/tank (21 gallons approx) with 285's, Kaymar rear bumper, MT sliders, and OME 2.5" heavy lift 20% town/80% highway going 80mph. 87 octane cheapy crappy ARCO.
Still not worth doing a diesel conversion unless one plans to drive it another 200K miles!

At some point I have to question how people are calculating their milage. The best my rig ever did when stock was about 13 MPG. when I moved to 35's and added all kinds of weight I got about 10-11 average (almost no highway miles). I have now regeared to 5.29's and my corrected average for the last few hundred miles which includes around town, highway and off road/low range, etc. was 10.4 MPG.
GPS calibrated Yellow Box measuring fillups at the same pump. I go down a long way no matter where I am headed from my house. At 65 mph, I get fantastic gas mileage for say 40 miles into Denver on a 2-3% grade going from 7,400 ft elevation to 5,200. On the way home, it's all uphill, but it is gradual uphill, almost no extra effort with 5.29's.
Combined, I easily get 14-15 mpg, have done so with 8 passengers (4 small kids). 12-13 is more typical. I never get in the 9-10 range, even heading over the Rockies, six of us and gear onboard, with a climb from Denver to over Eisenhower pass at almost 12K feet.
I also drive fairly gently around town. A heavy foot or wanting to drive 75 mph easily take 2 mpg off my totals, which means I am usually filling up 16 gallons at about 200 miles in combined driving. Pure highway, staying at 65 mph, I have done much better to the tune of 280 miles on 19.5 gallons about the peak. Not bad for a beast on a diet and 35's
.Any factoring of offroad use makes these calculations irrelevant. I get maybe 5-7 mpg crawling, and that depends on the conditions. These is no such thing as offroad gas mileage unless you are talking about long distance overland use.

Best tank I ever had was in the UP of MI, 23mpg. I actually get that almost every time I drive there. Better gas and a bit slower speeds, 63mph. I average 13 on the commute and 15 on the highway @ 70mph. Calculated with the GPS or the odometer+4% for the tire size, works out the same.
I was getting 9-10mpg consistenly in the last couple of months. Life would suck if I had a huge commute. As it is, I only travel 14 miles round trip to work.

My Rig is completely stock and I get anywhere between 12 MPG at the low end to 15.88 MPG at the high end depending on my driving habits and the terrain (City/Freeway Terrain not off-road Terrain).
I just made my first mod - 33 inch tires and don't know the impact that will have, but I guess I'll soon find out. I'll post again in when I get a chance to fill up 5 or 6 tank fulls. That will give me time to report to you guys a new range...
I hope the mileage hit isn't too high. I purposely purchased 255/85/16 tires to keep the rolling resistancce down. I do however notice the diameter of the wheel effects take off more than I expected. I used to take my foot off the brake at idle and my car would start to accellerate to 5 MPH fairly quickly - not anymore I have to coax it a hair to get that same Idling acceleration.

go to 35s and your highway mileage will increase. they only hurt you in stop-n-go traffic.
I got a 1.5 to 2 mpg increase in highway mileage when I went from 285s to 315s
City mileage dropped about 1mpg though...
you know...that RTT is removeable, y'know...

Actually, I have heard that about bigger tires but have had no confirmation. Good to know.
As far as the tent being removable:
* Tent weighs 110 lbs.
* Tent sits almost 7' in the air.
* Impossible for me to take on and off on my own as I am not 6' 5" and built like a big rock like some people I know.
* There is nobody to help me at a moment's notice.
* I don't have a garage or any other structure to set up a pulley system like you rich Sacramento folk.
* Not my daily driver so it stays packed up for trips and there is really no reason to remove the tent.
I was merely stating that the tent is one of the contributing factors to my poor mileage.
Can't a guy bitch once in a while? Jeez.

Well, even with the 8 to 9mpg the beast is getting, I decided this morning that the beast is taking myself and the family down to Disneyland this afternoon! 
I figure, its going to run me about 350 to 400 bucks round trip (some daily driving while down there) BUT, even the wife says "its safer to drive down there since its so big and has all that STUFF on it"...
Ahhh, so the beast is filled up (first of many fill ups for the trip) and packed with all of s***.........Disneyland here we come!! (kind of like the Griswalds in the movie Vacation..........ok, maybe not!)

Anyway, I set the cruise control to 65ish and holy s***, I got 15mpg. No joke, still dont believe it!
Damn, for having 270k on the beast, it still runs like a champ! Damn I like my cruiser!!!
Oh, and dont by drinks at Disneyland.......I purchased two mojitos, one shot, and one beer and it ran me just over 60 bucks!!
What can I say, I need to save the funds for the fuel to get home!
