SOLD!!!
I'm sure you've heard the story; planned to keep it forever, but...
3rd baby on the way meant we needed a 100, and thanks to a fellow MUD member we found a great one. So now we must reluctantly say goodbye to the 40.
I bought it as a complete basket case and spent the last eight months getting it to where it is now. Its driven three days a week and every weekend to the beach. It starts, drives, and stops flawlessly. F.5 motor fires within one revolution and pulls hard through all three gears to a cruising speed of 55mph all day long. factory drums all round will easily lock the tires if need be.

I put this 73' F.5 drivetrain in six months ago, pulled from a running truck by a fellow MUD member. Its been ultra reliable and pulls really well. slight weep from the rear main as well as the P-Brake. I adjusted the valves two months ago and it sounds like a sewing machine. I've got an additional 3SP tranny / 3SP Tcase as well as an additional F.5 mated to the legendary SM420 and a 3SP Tcase that goes with it. Also included: spare front and rear driveshafts, stock suspension, and two tubs of spare parts i've been collecting. Every few months i'll see an F pop up in the classifieds and i snag em for spares. Its cheaper and easier for me to swap full drivetrains than to replace a clutch unfortunately.
This is not a show car or immaculate unmolested barn find. The PO did some questionable body work and its got its share of filler. I planned to reskin the quarters after beach season. the body looks great, but if you look closely you can see some filler. When the PO cut the rear wheel well openings he used aluminum angle riveted in the quarters to provide structural integrity. it looks silly but seems strong. For what I use it for, its perfect, and will likely last another 40 years. The paint is Krylon Camo Flat Khaki, its super durable and if you get a scratch on the trail you just spray it on. The frame, axles, 3rds, and steering components have been coated in POR-15 and look great.
Everything works, Tcase shifts well, and tranny is surprisingly quiet at speed. The factory front seats are faded with expected tears here and there and a burn in the passenger seat where the PO left his work light on. AUX power receptacle in the glove box works well. It has long jump seats in the rear that the kids love, look to have been recovered recently.
I can't drive this thing anywhere without people coming out and wanting to talk my ear off about the 40 they learned to drive in or their dad's 40 bought new in 72'. I''ll give it a week here on MUD, then its off to Ebay where it will likely sell for some obscene price.
Its located in Elkton, FL 32033 which is 25 miles South of Jacksonville, 30 miles North of Daytona Beach and 5 miles West of the Atlantic Ocean. I don't mind helping with shipping on your dime. Clean Florida Title will be yours after money clears the bank. Build thread is in the signature if you'd like to see where its come from.
