that was the  bumper the first second I saw it - it's still a  bumper no matter what truck it is on :flipoff2:

Can't be... is that really 'La Bumperette'? :)

The one that singlehandedly cut Comb's Wash Road in half?

Like this,,, yep.:o

What are you mumbling about? 'La Bumperette' has now served well on two rigs, it's well proven!:flipoff2:

Who would have thought my bumper had such a glorious history? I think I'm going to need a few more details on this one. For instance, how did it cut Comb's Wash Road in half? I feel proud.

By the way, it was great wheeling with everyone on Sunday.

Kevin showed up with it for one of the Moab wheeling trips

as I had a hard time containing myself, I got an ellbow into the ribs from Michael

If Dave Gore made it, it would be all of that and a bag of chips. I made it, so it's a subject of ridicule.:flipoff2:

it didn't hold up and got bent  the pic above shows that on the left corner :hillbilly:

my Dave Gore bumper that Michael rammed into the cinder block at the storage lot hasn't even gotten scratches :flipoff2:

When you wheel with just the Tupperware, can't feel rock contact in the rear, so damage is easily done without knowing it. 'La Bumperette' was designed after the nurf bars we put on race cars, easy/cheap to make, once used/bent to be replaced, so single use, disposable/temporary. Mostly to give "feel" indication when touching rock.

It has proven to be more durable than planned. If you look at the right side there is a big gouge in the tube. I slid (slammed) the rear into a rock wall, if that were not there my quarter would not be as pretty as it is today. 'La Bumperette' has proven to be strong when hit from the side. If slammed from the bottom, dropped off of a big ledge, it will bend, but has saved body work. If more gently lowered onto rock, it will support the rig and slide without bending.

The big "problem" with the design is lack of triangulation, if it had two tubes from the hitch to the hoop on each side, it would be stronger. But it works and it's good to see it still being used.:hillbilly:

The Comb Wash thing: We were in Moab for Blazer Bash, there was a huge storm, the TV talking heads were babbling about record rain fall, flooding, etc. As we worked our way south, we were denied some of the trails that we intended to run, due to flooding, washouts, etc. We were denied on Arch Canyon, so decided to take Comb Wash, it's a regularly graded dirt road, so what could possibly go wrong?:hillbilly:

There were lots of washouts to bump through, go around, but no problem. As we came to one, my wife was yelling something about DEEP! I wasn't worried, it was only ~1' wide. The front went over without issue, the rear was a bit of a letdown! It was undercut, much bigger underground, the bumper went about a foot below ground level and the tire never hit bottom! It was likely a good thing that the front made it, if it had gone in, probably wouldn't of ended as well. Anyway, now I was on one side and all of the other rigs were on the other of a huge chasm, took some road building to get all of the rigs across.

Cinder block?:o 'La Bumperette' has broken real rock!;p:hillbilly:

If you read the making of it thread, it was designed to be temporary, yes it has bent, but did it's job. At the time negotiations were underway with Luke, a 4x4Labs bumper was on order, so wasn't going to spend $$$ or time for something that will be replaced soon. It was designed to protect the quarters until the new bumper came and did that job.:hillbilly:

I am just giving you a hard time :flipoff2: and it looked so funny among all the built Blazers

Yep, I'm attempting to give it back. At the time you ran this front, not exactly the ultimate in hardcore?:flipoff2:

It took her five years to figure out how to break the greasable spring pins. But she needed only two years to figure out how to break the bumper...:grinpimp:

Well, I for one like 'La Bumperette'. Maybe because it's simple and purpose built. Maybe because it's mine and no one thinks their child's ugly. Regardless, it's gonna help me do more wheeling.

By the way, how did it end up on my 80? I'm guessing the PO bought it off you.
