I cleaned the hood hinges in the blast cabinet.

@ntsqd, These bolts are for the door hinges and hood hinges so they were body color. They were originally blue but I'm painting it white now. Probably do the same with the fender bolts.

I bought bags of JIS nuts & bolts from McMaster-Carr. I have both black oxide and zinc. I don't want original bolts that rust after I clean them. If I was doing a "restoration" I would maybe opt for new original bolts.

I'm still plugging away at the most exciting part of this build. Stripping and/or scuffing paint, hammering out dings and test fitting panels. 🙄 Gotta be done though. Almost as fun, was looking up all the plastic clips, grommets and door parts. I have a list and I'll wait for the next Toyota parts sales event.

Next task? 🤔 Maybe scuff the epoxy primer on the cab and start filling dents.

Treating with Ospho prevents flash rust

Ospho works great on rust. I use it a lot. Epoxy primer doesn't work well if it isn't completely neutralized so I made sure I took care of that.

I'll have to do a good wipe down before I spray primer.

The body is pretty straight overall but I found a bunch of dings and dents that I never noticed until I stripped the paint. I almost don't want to fix them since I didn't notice them and the fact that I'm not going to be babying this truck.

However, with all I've put into this truck so far now is not the time to cut corners.

I thought about putting filler directly on these panels since they're stripped to bare metal and I want to keep moving on this build. But getting epoxy down first is the proper way so I started on the cab dents first. Like the pitted area in the one pic.

I started on the driver side. Wiped it down and scuffed with maroon prep pads. Got a couple dents up high and the rocker had a bunch of dings.

It's too dang hot here still. The filler is curing immediately after I start to spread it. I had the can kept inside the house too. I'm going to have to figure something else out to work on until the weather cools off.

I am keen on Toyota Parts Sales Events. Please repost if they come up! and keep up the good work, as it motivates me to raise my game. Cleaning parts here and it is close to zero in the garage.

The 3m rocker guard will likely cover the dings down low if you don't want to put a bunch of effort in to the filler there.

I had to put less hardner in my filler when it was hot and do very small batches early in the morning or late at night...kinda helped give me more time..just really save me from wasting so much filler. Still wanted to pinhole a lot and meant I had to use a finishing filler on top in places I don't think would have been an issue at cooler temps.

@jgranthevagrant , I usually watch for someone to post up about the sales event myself, but I'll post up here if I see it.

@clx16 , I wasn't sure if using less hardener would cause problems but I tried half the amount on one small batch. Still hardened up too fast to get much working time. And I'm mixing really small amounts. It's over 100 in my garage so I just have to wait for cooler weather or get up really early.

I'm going to round up the best parts from the doors I have and start cleaning. I need to get seam sealer on a few areas too. Cleaning up window gaskets, removing crusty old tint from the glass and any other undesirable, uncompleted tasks are all necessary to get this on the trail.

This is kind of boring stuff so thanks for the tips, support and still following along you guys.

Still too hot so I've been prepping the cab for paint. I have more seam sealer on the way.

I realized that I need to strip the tailgate. The paint is easy but this had Rhino Liner on it since the early 90's. After pulling the access panel I was able to lift an edge of it and then blast it off with my pressure washer. For some reason it was sprayed without the panel in place so I had to get it out of the inside too. You can see the pieces on the table.

Once the liner was off I scuffed up the paint and applied the paint stripper. Scraped off the paint once it lifted and pressure washed it again. Then I hit it with the DA sander and 80 grit paper. I still have to get the liner off the cover panel.

This stuff isn't my favorite thing to do but at least it's progress.
