Sometimes things dont always go right. I purchased my truck a month ago and with all your help i have been fixing it up mechanically.
Fj60 - 500 bucks
Axel Rebuild Kit- 180
Window Regulator - 50
Fuel Hill Hose - 40
Shifter Seat - 20
Tail Light Lenses 40
Brake Pads/Shoes 50
Rear Wheel Cylinder - 13
Ac belt - 20
Smog pump - 122
PS pump rebuild - 60

After i put the ac belt on i was stoked to find the ac works! So i drove around just to feel the cool air blowing from the vents. Shortly into the drive i noticed a issue, smoke and noise from the engine compartment. Apparently, the smog pump has quit. When I pulled it apart the vanes just fell out. one piece was even stuck in the air flow tube. I devaned it and reassembled it but it wouldnt spin. so, I ordered one from Orreillys figuring 122 dollars is better than the hassle of trying to desmog the truck. lifetime warranty etc etc. But i figure since i had it apart i better rebuild the powerstearing pump. There is another 60 bucks, plus i will be replacing the belts. Anything else i need to do while im in there?

wow, you bought a 60 for the price of a liftgate? show us some pix!!!

hey it runs. I paid almost that much to get the AC going in my rig...

Dont laugh...poor thing needs some springs bad. all in due time.:hillbilly:

Great find and good luck. I've had my first FJ60, an '82, for about a month and learning as I go....by reading a lot here and getting under the truck. Have fun!

At least yours came with wheel blocks...mine didnt.:meh:

The wheel chocks are a aftermarket item. i had to steal one from one of my crews...add parking brake to the list of items needing fixed....lol:grinpimp:

Damn. Wish my list was that small. Give it a good tune up and change the fuel filter. That's about 150 bucks. Nice find for 500.00 def justifies spending money on it.

so i got the ps pump rebuilt today. that was a fun job. one word of advice....when you spilt the case......make sure you have something to catch all the springs...lol..im thinking opening it up inside a cardboard box or something. save you from searching the driveway for one that got away. i got the "new" (rebuilt junk) smog pump and reassembled everything tonight. Fired her up and everything apears in order. no noticeable leaks and she runs good.

ONE QUESTION......how do you know if the carb fan is working? is it on all the time or is it heat activated. does it blow hard? thanks.

When I had a 60, the carb fan came on when the engine was shut off, if at normal operating temperature. Yes it blew hard and I could here it clearly as I exited the cab and walked away.

While i was removing the ebrake cable for replacement my exhaust fell off. Apparently the pipe that was put in to replace the cat rusted off the down pipe. i just laughed and took it to the muffler shop to have them build me a new pipe from the down pipe clear out the back. TFF

anyway... i tried getting my Carb cooling fan to work. the wire burnt off the sensor and the sensor wont come off the mount. so i thought i would install a adjustable fan relay.....but which one?

Buy Electric Cooling Fans & Accessories at RJay's Speed Shop!

there are soo many to choose from. thanks for your help. PS. i went to oreillys looking for one and they laughed at me and said "they dont make anything like that"......i said Whatever

Have you tried bypassing the sensor and grounding it directly?

FYI- my fan wasn't working, and it ended up being the motor needed to be cleaned. There was a lot of black carbon junk in it. Now it blows like the west Texas wind.

yes. for now i have it grounded to a bolt on the inner fender well.. i was just wondering if this is ok for permanent or if a fan relay is a better permanent solution.
