Hi All,I have been reading up on lots of 8274 threads,I am just wondering how to bench test my winch.I am in the process of cleaning up all the outside connections.I have some rust on the solenoid backing plate and some of those connections look like they need to be cleaned up.The solenoid studs that almost touch each other have to be taken off the backing plate to clean up?Looks like the only way, cause you can't get the nuts all the way off.Don't know if you guys can tell how it looks from my pics.

This winch was sitting on an old Dodge Power Wagon(late 70's model)It had the original warn vynal cover on it so it saved it! I have had it sitting in my garage for over a year and just now getting into working on it to get it mounted up on my hand-me down custom bumper.I had a mounting plate made up for it.so now I just need to cut fairlead hole in bumper and get it welded on.
I have no power steering yet so it seems that this is as good winch for clearance.Do I mount it off center or if it is centered does the winch allow clearance.I can post up some pics. of my bumper and mounting plate as well.

Ok,so I have just posted up so pics.of my bumper setup. So far it has only cost me 50 bucks for the mounting plate.

I scored the 8274 off the old Dodge Power Wagon that was on it's way to get donated.Man when the guy said when do you want to to take it I jumped at the chance and had that sucker off in 1/2 an hour!Hardest part of the take off was getting off one of the mounting bolts that had a rusted out lock key on there(with no key,It would not have worked even if he had it)A good set of channel locks and lots of muscle did it.

So what do you guys think,a good fairlead, bumper plate sandwich should be good? Just need longer lower mounting bolts also.

Well looks like I have my questions answered for now thanks to the 295 threads on here from a simple "8274" search.Got through about 10 pages of reading over a few nights, wow so much info it's really cool to see folks so into these winches.

I will post up more info as i'm still trying to decide if I want to open mine up and check oil(i should a least do this because it might be the original oil ?)or just finish cleaning up and test it.Then to get my bumper done and get it mounted up.

You may have read that I'm going to pass on the ARB Bull Bar, and mount my 8274 much like you are doing.
My plate is a 90 degree angel plate, so I'll cut the top of my bumper to fit it right up against the back of the bumper face with it's base resting on the lower bumper rail, then weld it to the bumper, cut out the fairlead hole, drill through the mounting holes and bolt it all up.

P.S. ....... I like that you have "poor Yorick" in the background of your shop picture ........... "alas I knew him, Horatio .......". ;)
