80 vs 100

I sold the 40 last night. I was hoping the promotion at work would happen first so I could keep it but a gentleman showed up last night and said he would take it. I didn't figure it would be good form to tell him it was no longer for sale :-). Yet he search now intensifies. I think a 100 would be better for the family but you can get an excellent 80 for the price of a mediocre 100 so we will see what I find first. I got an interesting email offer last night I thought I'd share though word for word:

Shawn hafer: 8500 cash
Me: terribly low ball offer. I'm curious how you came up with that number?
SH: bc that is what it's worth.
Me: sorry man. Sold it today for 13,5. Peddle your s*** elsewhere.
SH: then why you still answering me s***head

I didn't feel his email warranted a response :-). Are these characters just preying on the desperate? That is the second similar offer I'd received. But anyway, onto the search.

You sold your 40 for $13,500? Holy s***. That'll damn near pay outright for any 100 you find.

Congratulations, and I'm sorry! I had a similar experience when I recently sold my F350… I had listed it for $16K hoping for $13K and was regularly getting offers from people saying they'd show up with $8K cash "right now!!!". It was annoying… I knew what it was worth, wasn't desperate, and eventually got $14K. I digress.

So have you driven both a 100 and an 80 yet? You gotta get both of them out on the road! They're both awesome trucks.

I have driven both of them. The 100 feels like a cadillac compared to the 40. The 80 felt much more like a truck. Both were amazing but the 100 was more refined. Just because of the price difference I am leaning towards an 80 but I am searching for either just looking for a good find. The market for land cruisers is pretty amazing right now. They sell within weeks if not days of being posted and have remarkable resell value. Finding one under 150K miles is like discovering a unicorn.

If you aren't looking to hardcore wheel, 100 series is the HANDS DOWN way to go IMO. I love the 80 series, but man, getting hard to find with low mileage or without being in need of paint ($$$). I think it's well documented here, but the 100 series was a complete change in class. If only they could have kept the solid front around another decade or so :(

Well, I just look forward to seeing what you end up with! They're both great trucks. I tend to agree with Ramon about the 100… As a daily driver I think you'll be happier in the long run with a Hundy. Either way, you're going to end up with a great vehicle! I hope you have it in time for Portsmouth Island :-)

I'm not sure which 80 and which 100 you are referring, but am excited to hear more nonetheless! How far are they from you? Can someone up there give you an independent inspection?

The one in KY appears to be at a small dealer. It is in the 100 classified section. The 80 was never really listed but mentioned in another thread. I've been in communications with the owner. 153k miles, full maint history, factory lockers. Asking 8100. Seems to be getting lots of interest. This is the golden age of cruisers. I've looked at 5 80s now and 1 100 in all different conditions. They are amazing vehicles for sure.
I plan on driving up to wv on August 2nd with my neighbor if anyone wants to tag along. 6 hours each way :-)
