This is true for the LX with a Scion HU. See my Scion HU install thread in my signature. It outlines all that is required.

Also, you lose the function of the dash speakers and the factory sub in the console...but I couldn't really tell much of a difference in sound quality at all. The little sub was worthless.

Man, I was sure hoping for some block rocking beats out of that sub.

did you unplug the factory amp? if you install a aftermarket H/U you need to unplug the amp its on the passenger side right behind the little dash speaker

I did unplug it...but I had no luck making it work...could not get sound, just power to the HU. I would gladly pay you for a harness if you would be interested in making one?

I'm not sure if the harness that I made for the Scion head unit is the same as the harness for an aftermarket HU. I would guess that they are not the same, actually.

Delancy, let me know if you want me to go ahead and get started on the Scion HU harness and I can figure up a total of what all the part costs will be for you.

Please do.

I've spent two rain days on a beach vacation perusing various HUs, and had started to lean towards the Pioneer App2 HU.....but my iPhone kept crashing.

Considering that most of the OE hardware will be rendered useless, I began questioning wether or not to just do a full blown system, but don't have the time to allocate to, right now.

Will go with the Scion, find front speakers that'll work, and worry about the hi fi later, if ever.

Thanks for putting this together. I do appreciate.

Chris

Chris,
Awesome build thread, and in case you didn't know, this is my rig, although it has transformed recently. :D

Do your sliders and skid plate before anything else. You are likely to start wheeling your truck right out of the gate. Most of us did. You can avoid a lot of heart ache and cost by doing these things first. See the posts on Mud about Rocker Panel Damage and it will explain everything.

I am confused why these are not installed and tested yet. Way too much time and thought is going into your stereo and interior.:D

You guys don't know Chris yet! This thing will be extremely well built and thought out before he'll join us on the trail.

I get that feeling as well.

This heat thing is the number one reason I haven't gotten much done on my 80 or 40 series, I'm betting that is a common theme in the southwest USA.

Thanks. Work in progress, no doubt.

I've been following the chop, but never properly accredited previous post here, regarding the paint/liner scheme, which I'll be following suite on.

Hoping not to follow on the chop, at least on this one, but I did see this pic somewhere (again, no credit. Haha) and prompted the debate wether to SAC the current FJC, or build one the way it should've been built.

Temps have finally broken, a bit, and just arrived back in town at 11pm last night, so progress will be forthcoming.

Part of my plan, which eliminates a driveway project, is to measure front and rear travel in both OE form, and with the Superflex arms, for the purpose of determining improvement, shock travel specifications (so I can accurately order Radflo's. Have OME for temp use) and to determine how much, if any, of the fender wells will be cut.

It's been difficult to acquire lift time at the shops I frequent (own am F350 Powersmoke, so I have frequent flyer miles at a lot of shops) but hoping to get in early next week.

Have all new bolts that arrived a week ago, and all I lack are tie rod, drag link and tres.

Too much more time and thought.

Rear doors are done. Cup holder in.

Front speaker bs is wearing me out. I've given up finding anything to go behind grille, which means the efforts on the piss ant rears are probably wasted.

Way too much time spent on this, I agree.
